Getting the studio ready for our Pirate themed year!

I’m getting excited for our new theme for piano lessons this year! Reach for the Stars!! My granddaughter, once again, has featured our studio Mascot, Chickbock, for our wall picture. Get ready to Blastoff! This year features solos, duets and hopefully ensembles after March!

At our recital last Saturday, I introduced our studio theme for next year’s piano lessons. Building off of this year’s ‘Chickenbock’s Composer Challenge’ theme (we studied 8 composers and wrote our own compositions, and introduced Chickenbock seated at a grand piano,) our theme will be ‘Chickenbock Goes to the Movies - Lights, Camera, Action!’ We’ll be exploring and performing pieces from movies, broadway and TV shows. We’ll learn how music is added to movies and study the instruments of the orchestra. The students are so excited! Thanks to my Granddaughter, Abby, for her artwork! I love the driver best! Chicken Bock walks the red carpet!

We had such a wonderful recital yesterday! I’m hoping to post a few videos this week! I missed a few students who couldn’t make it but they all performed well, which makes my heart happy!

I am so proud of my students. We've been learning how to write music since September and my students have amazed me with what they have come up with. I'm excited for our recital in a couple of weeks so they can show off what they've accomplished! They will each receive a book with everyone's compositions in it. I discovered that most of my students prefer a minor sound (sad, scarry, etc.). That was interesting!

My students are LOVING our Chickenbock Composer Challenge race! Thanks again to my 14 year old granddaughter for the graphics! We’re currently wrapping up our original compositions to perform at our January recital! There are some great ones from very young children! I’m gifting them a copy of Kidz Klassics Vol. 5 (I think that’s the number I’m on) that will have everyone’s compositions in them, even mine! Now for full knee replacement surgery tomorrow! Wish me luck!!

Next year's theme is up on the wall! Introducing Chickenbock's Composer Challenge. My talented 14-year-old granddaughter took on the challenge of coming up with a cute way of displaying each composer we'll be studying. Why Chickenbock? You know how chickens say 'bock?' That's where she came up with the name for her character - Chickenbock. Chickenbock has evolved over the last 11 years. :-) My personal favorite is 'Bock.' What's yours?
