Happy Teacher of the Year to all the SJCSD teachers and rookies last night! I enjoyed the night celebrating our amazing educators and friends. It's always so great to see so many familiar faces at this event.
I especially enjoyed this night because I got to celebrate MY favorite teacher of the Year - Neeti Matta Gregg. You simply amaze me and I'm so proud of you!!! .joey.jeeplife
This was my second year being a part of the Rookie of the Year selection committee. I had so much joy meeting all the Rookie candidates. I'm super proud of the teacher we chose last night. Amazing journey to become an educator!!
As always, did an amazing job putting on this event.
Teachers are awesome!!!

I love this affirmation bulletin board at Fruit Cove Middle School. πππ
Self-affirmations are important because they can help you focus on your positive qualities, boost your confidence, improve your self-esteem, manage stress, and promote a more positive mindset by actively replacing negative self-talk with empowering messages about yourself, which can lead to better coping mechanisms and improved resilience in challenging situations. πβ€οΈπͺ
Key benefits of self-affirmations:
Increased self-efficacy:
By repeating positive statements about your abilities, you can start to believe in your potential to achieve goals and overcome obstacles. π―πβ¨
Reduced stress and anxiety:
Affirmations can help counteract negative thoughts and feelings, leading to a calmer and more optimistic outlook. πποΈπ»
Improved resilience:
When you are confident in your strengths, you are better equipped to handle setbacks and bounce back from challenges. πͺππ₯
Positive behavior change:
Affirmations can motivate you to take action towards personal goals by reinforcing desired behaviors. π―π±π
Enhanced self-awareness:
The process of creating affirmations encourages you to reflect on your values and positive qualities. π§ββοΈπ‘π
Positive affirmations work by replacing negative thought patterns with healthier ways of thinking. They can have a positive impact on the brain and body.
My self affirmation for the day is that I embrace my best self today.
What is yours???

It was a WILD time at FCA yesterday. , , , and a Scientist in Every Classroom Zoom for all grade levels.
It was an amazing school wide event.
2 elementary and 2 middle school students with the most points got the chance to turn Principal Melissa Lime's hair blue because they met their Boosterthon goal. Such a memorable experience for those students AND the students who witnessed this happening. Walking the hallways with Principal Lime afterward and seeing the reaction on everyone's faces was priceless.
This is PBIS. This brought together students, teachers, staff, and parents.
This is Maslow before Bloom. I ended my day with first graders, and one first grader said they had so much fun and they didn't do any school work today. Ha! They learned all about bats, snakes, turtles, frogs, skinks, and ocean animals, all while thinking there was no school work done. Ha! Oh yes, you learned today, sweet little Falcon.
I got to touch a tortoise and a snake. Also, I posed with a giraffe skull.
Fun fact: Did you know that turtles can breathe through their butt? You're welcome!

Maslow Before Bloom
Before the lessons and the tests,
Before the grades that deem whoβs best,
We must remember first to see,
The roots beneath the learning tree.
A child hungry, tired, or cold,
Cannot grasp the stories told.
No formula or history chart,
Can reach a wounded, aching heart.
Safety, love, a place to rest,
Come first before we learn or test.
For minds canβt flourish, dream, or bloom,
In a heart thatβs trapped in gloom.
So feed the spirit, calm the fears,
Dry the eyes, and lend your ears.
Build the trust and light the way,
Then knowledge will find room to stay.
When Maslowβs needs are met with care,
Then Bloom can follow anywhere.
But first, we nurture, heal, and tend,
For true growth starts where basics mend.

I was asked to speak Thursday night at the Boys and Girls Club's Annual Sizzlin' Soiree at Asado Life in St. Augustine, alongside Lindsey Page and Bethany Groves. Thank you, Melissa Lime, for including us in a special evening fundraising for a much- needed teen center for our youth.
In the words of Helen Keller, "Alone we can do so little: together we can do so much."

So very true! Actually, I think this applies to everyone, regardless of age - young and old!
Brain breaks are important because they can help improve learning and cognitive functioning in a number of ways, including:
Increasing focus
Brain breaks can help students focus and be more productive. After 20 minutes of sitting, the brain's ability to focus decreases.
Reducing stress and anxiety
Brain breaks can help reduce stress and anxiety, which can make it easier to focus on important tasks.
Helping students learn more quickly
Brain breaks can help students learn more quickly. One study found that children learned vocabulary words 20% faster after exercising than when they hadn't.
Helping students learn to self-regulate
Brain breaks can help students learn to self-regulate and be more aware of when they're getting fed up.
Helping students build self-confidence
Being able to return to a task and get it done builds self-confidence and self-esteem.
Helping students process information
Brain breaks allow the brain to process, organize, and integrate learned information.
Helping students recharge cognitive energy
Brain breaks allow the brain to recharge cognitive energy.
Some examples of brain breaks include stretching, moving to a different part of the room, singing a song, and letting students chat informally.
Thank you, Google, for these reasons as to why it is important.
