BIBLE STORIES — Stories Retold Through Tobin Wagstaff Music

What happens when familiar Bible stories are explored through music?

I’ve been experimenting with that question by creating a collection of musical interpretations inspired by twelve different Bible stories. Some include vocals and storytelling; others allow the music itself to tell the story.

There’s Always a Reason Why

Addiction rarely begins with someone deciding they want to destroy their life.

There is usually a reason why.

There’s Always a Reason Why looks beyond the substance or behavior and asks a more important question: What happened before the addiction?

The book explores the experiences, pain, circumstances, choices, relationships, and patterns that can lead a person toward addiction—and why simply judging the behavior often tells us very little about the person experiencing it.

This is not a book about making excuses for addiction. It is about trying to understand it.

Because when we only ask, “Why won’t they stop?” we may be asking the wrong question.

Sometimes we first need to ask:

“Why did they need to start?”

For anyone affected by addiction—personally, through family or friends, or through work in recovery and helping professions—I hope this book can contribute another perspective to the conversation.

I’ve been working on something new: COLOMBIA: Stories in Music — A Tobin Wagstaff in Colombia Collection.

Living in Colombia has made me realize how much there is here that I still don’t know. So I started exploring the country in a way that comes naturally to me: through music.

These pieces take stories from Colombia’s history, cultures, landscapes, folklore and traditions and turn them into music—sometimes through spoken word and song, sometimes entirely instrumentally.

The collection has already taken me from El Dorado and the Muisca world to San Basilio de Palenque, the Magdalena River, cumbia, Madremonte, Cartagena, Colombian coffee, the páramo, Francisco José de Caldas, the Amazon rubber boom, chivas, and the marimba traditions of Colombia’s Pacific coast.

I’ve learned a tremendous amount just making them.

There are different musical versions of the stories as well as instrumental versions, so explore the playlist and listen to whatever catches your interest.

This isn’t meant to define Colombia. It’s my way of learning about the country I live in, one story at a time—and sharing that journey through music.

I’ve been working on a new project called THE 16 HUMAN ARCHETYPES.

It explores sixteen qualities that are part of being human: Vision, Compassion, Growth, Endurance, Hope, Wisdom, Courage, Integrity, Curiosity, Humility, Discipline, Creativity, Justice, Gratitude, Unity, and Love.

Each archetype has its own original song, exploring both its Gift and its Shadow—what that quality can become at its best, and what happens when it loses its balance.

The project also developed an unexpected connection to Colombia and the Muisca world. The visual mythology draws inspiration from the landscapes, materials, symbols, colors, and atmosphere of the Colombian Andes, while the music moves through different styles and emotional worlds rather than trying to make all sixteen songs sound alike.

You don’t have to start with #1. Look through the sixteen, find the quality that catches your attention, and start there.

Hello everyone!

I’ve been living in Colombia for a while now, and I realized I’ve never properly introduced myself.

I’m originally from the United States, but Colombia has become home while I’ve been working on a variety of creative projects. I’m an educator, author, composer, musician, graphic designer, and publisher. Over the past few years I’ve been creating children’s books, original music, educational resources, artwork, and other creative projects through the Wagstaff Library.

Instead of scattering everything across different websites and social media pages, I’ve finally brought it all together in one place:

I’m not really here to sell anything—I just wanted to introduce myself and share what I’ve been working on. If you’re another creative, educator, musician, writer, designer, or just curious about the projects people are building here in Colombia, I’d love to connect.
