This week's LEADERSHIP TORCH recipient is Special Education teacher Kelly Fresina. Kelly cares so deeply for her students and goes far beyond extra to help them. I see the challenges she faces and how she still plans great lessons for all the students, making sure to plan for all of their different needs.

The St. Amant High School Sports Medicine Team is incredibly grateful to the Remy Hidalgo Memorial Foundation for their generous donation of a Wet Bulb Globe Temperature (WBGT) unit and a cold-water immersion tub to our athletic department. These lifesaving resources will help us better monitor environmental conditions and respond quickly to heat-related emergencies during the hot Louisiana months, practices, and outdoor events.

The mission of the Remy Hidalgo Memorial Foundation is to prevent heatstroke tragedies by equipping Louisiana schools with lifesaving heat-monitoring devices and cold-water immersion tubs, while raising awareness about the dangers of exertional heat illness.

Remy Hidalgo was a beloved 16-year-old junior at Denham Springs High School, where he was a member of the football and powerlifting teams. He was known for his kind heart, infectious personality, and dream of playing college football. In September of 2020, Remy collapsed following a hot football practice after suffering an exertional heat stroke. Despite receiving emergency medical care, he tragically passed away.
Following Remy’s passing, his mother, Ashley Roberson, established the Remy Hidalgo Memorial Foundation to help ensure that another family would not have to experience the same tragedy. His legacy has also helped inspire stronger heat-safety protections for student-athletes across Louisiana, including the Remy Hidalgo Act. A special thanks to Scott Arceneaux, long-time Head Athletic Trainer at St. Amant, for being a huge part of passing this Act. We are honored to be one of the many Louisiana schools carrying Remy’s legacy forward.

Gators we are seeing a great response to our October ACT sign-up! If you are preparing for the ACT this semester, remember we have FREE ACT tutoring every Wednesday from 2:45-3:45 in Room 105 with the legendary Mrs. Figs! She will be preparing students for the October school day test and the Sept. 19, Oct. 17, and Dec. 12 Saturday national test. There is no sign up required to attend tutoring. Take advantage of this free opportunity to improve your ACT score!

It's official! St. Amant High School is hosting a school day ACT test administration on Oct. 28! This will be a digital test offered to St. Amant High School students. Students can sign-up using the QR code on the flyer. Students must use their school email account to register. Sign-up will close on Sept. 4th at 2:00 pm. The cost is $40, and students will see the fee in their SchoolCashOnline account after their registration is confirmed. Students will receive a confirmation email by Sept. 11 if they are registered for the test.

Don't forget St. Amant High School offers free ACT tutoring every Wednesday from 2:45-3:45 in room 105 in the Freshman Academy!

We are incredibly grateful to the amazing community partners who came together to provide our St. Amant High School NJROTC program with this AWESOME new trailer!
A special thank you to Cargo Craft, Inc., Delaunes’s Supermarket, Austin Fire Systems, Bulldog OLM Services, RMP Graphix, B&B Enterprises of Gonzales, Inc., Ascension Signs, and Terri St. Pierre for investing in our cadets and supporting the future of our NJROTC program.

This trailer will be put to great use as our cadets travel, train, compete, and proudly represent St. Amant High School throughout the year. Your generosity is another incredible example of a community that continues to show up for our students.

Kian is known around campus as a student who will take on a challenge, help someone in need, and serve her school community through service projects. The St. Amant High School Wind Symphony has been selected as one of only 22 high school concert bands in the nation to be featured at the 2027 Music for All National Concert Band Festival - an extraordinary honor that gives our students the opportunity to represent St. Amant, Ascension Parish, and Louisiana on a national stage.

We are seeking community and business partners to help make this once-in-a-lifetime experience possible. Sponsorship opportunities begin at $100, with levels offering prominent recognition throughout the 2026-27 season, including game-day signage, halftime announcements, banners, apparel, and digital and social media recognition. Custom partnership opportunities are also available. All donations are tax -deductible.
