A community dinner in northern New Hampshire opened the door to conversations about employment and training opportunities through A4TD’s Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP).

At the Salvation Army’s invitation, A4TD set up an information table where attendees could learn about the program and take information to share with friends and neighbors. The response was encouraging, with potential applications to follow.

Salvation Army directors also identified two areas where participants could train. Thank you to the Salvation Army for bringing people together and welcoming A4TD.

Experience belongs in the workforce.

CWI Works’ July 2026 survey found that 87% of adults aged 55+ who had used AI for work reported being comfortable doing so. Among respondents aged 55+ who were unemployed or looking for work, 34% wanted opportunities to update their skills.

These findings challenge assumptions about older workers’ willingness to learn and use technology. Access to training can help experienced workers develop the skills needed to pursue employment and continue contributing in the workplace.

Older workers deserve opportunities to learn and fair consideration for the experience they bring.

Julie Martin, A4TD’s CMPA in our Maine East region, attended the Town of Danforth’s 2026 Resource Exposition. The event connected residents with resources available in Washington County and the surrounding region, with a strong turnout for a town of approximately 660 residents.

🤝 Participating organizations included Maine Federation of Farmers’ Markets, University of Maine Center on Aging AmeriCorps Seniors, American Red Cross, Eastern Area Agency on Aging, Danforth Habilitation Association, University of Maine Senior Companion Program, Penquis Foster Grandparents, and Good Shepherd Food Bank.

A4TD has already begun making partnership connections through the event. We look forward to developing these new relationships, strengthening connections among local service providers, and growing our presence in Danforth and the surrounding communities.

Want to help people build skills, find meaningful work, and achieve greater economic independence? Join Associates for Training and Development (A4TD), a nonprofit supporting mature workers for more than 40 years.

You’ll support older adults through job training and their transition to permanent employment, provide coaching and job-search assistance, and build partnerships with local employers and community organizations.

📍 Based in Sunbury, Wellsboro, or Williamsport, PA
💼 Full-time | Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m.
💰 $42,000–$45,000 annually
🚗 Moderate in-state travel required; travel expenses reimbursed

We’re looking for someone with an associate degree, 1–3 years of work experience, strong computer and recordkeeping skills, and a positive, collaborative approach. Client-service or business-outreach experience is preferred. We can train the right person!

At our September Network to Work meeting, Michael Ziegler, a volunteer firefighter with Newburg Fire Co. in Logan Township, PA shared valuable information on workplace safety.

Making connections in East Millinocket! 📸

We enjoyed attending the Open House and Resource Exchange at the Katahdin Higher Education Center on September 10. It was a wonderful opportunity to meet community members, connect with local organizations, and share information about A4TD and the Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP).

A highlight of the evening was talking with prospective applicants and their families, answering questions, and learning more about their interests.

Building connections and opening doors! 🤝

On September 9, A4TD joined Community Action Agency of New Haven’s Aging with their Gathering Resources to Achieve Connections and Empowerment (GRACE) program for an informational session about the Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP).

Participants learned about program benefits, eligibility, and the enrollment process—and had an opportunity to ask questions. Approximately eight participants completed initial intake forms following the session, taking a next step toward exploring opportunities with A4TD!

Thank you to Aging with GRACE. for bringing us together and supporting older adults in staying engaged, connected, and independent. We look forward to continuing this connection!

The Bedford Job Fair takes place on September 16, 2026.

At A4TD, we support older adults on their path back to work. We operate the Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP), which helps eligible unemployed adults age 55+ gain skills and experience through paid, part-time training assignments serving their communities. Our goal is to help participants move into lasting employment.

Our team had a productive day at the Altoona–Blair County Job Fair!

CMPAs Tammy and Mary Jo, along with Career Navigator Linda Lord, connected with approximately 20 employers, gathered seven new contacts, and identified at least one potential participant. The team is continuing to follow up with the people they met.

Next stop: the Bedford Job Fair on September 16!

It was a great day to connect with our New Haven, CT neighbors! 💛

Our Career Navigator, Rachel Spells, recently joined the Stevens Street Community Block Party, where residents of all ages came together for school supply giveaways, free health screenings, food, clothing, and live music.

For our team at A4TD, helping older adults take their next steps toward employment starts with getting to know the people and communities we serve. Rachel’s work with the Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) makes those local connections especially meaningful.
