I’ve been tested lately.

Boundaries. Grief. Self-worth. Old coping mechanisms. Even shopping—recognizing when I want to fix something on the outside because something on the inside feels uncomfortable.

And I’m struggling.

Growth and healing sound beautiful when we talk about it after we’ve made it through. Living it can feel incredibly lonely.

Sometimes growth is saying the uncomfortable thing when your boundaries and space feels violated. Saying no when the old version of you would have said yes to keep the peace. Sitting with grief instead of distracting yourself or running from it.

It’s realizing I don’t have to buy, achieve, please, fix, or control my way out of every uncomfortable feeling.

I can just… stay.

Stay with myself.
Feel what needs to be felt.
Honor the boundary.
Say what I mean.
Mean what I say.
Let myself grieve.
Remember that my worth was never something I had to earn.

Maybe healing isn’t becoming someone who never hurts.

Maybe it’s becoming someone who can hurt without abandoning herself.

And right now, that feels like growth. Others may not see it because they don’t know the already healed parts. 🤍

I’ve been thinking a lot about gratitude lately. We see it everywhere on social media.

So grateful for this trip.
So grateful for this house.
So grateful for this opportunity.
So grateful for this beautiful life.

And sometimes I wonder…

Are we actually practicing gratitude—or have we learned how to package our accomplishments as gratitude because it feels more socially acceptable than saying, “Look what I have. Look what I’ve done. Look how good my life is.”

There’s nothing wrong with celebrating your life. There’s nothing wrong with being proud of what you’ve built or sharing something beautiful. But I think real gratitude is quieter than we sometimes make it.

Gratitude isn’t just recognizing what we have when it’s impressive enough to photograph.

It’s noticing what we’ve stopped noticing.

The person who still answers the phone.
The body that carried us through another day.
The ordinary meal on the table.
The student who trusted us.
The friend who checked in.
The roof that kept us dry while it rained.
The breath we didn’t have to remember to take.

And maybe even the things that didn’t go our way but changed us anyway.

Authentic gratitude doesn’t require an audience.

It changes the way we treat what we’ve been given.

If I say I’m grateful for my people, do they feel appreciated by me?

If I say I’m grateful for my body, do I listen when it asks me to rest?

If I say I’m grateful for my community, do I actually show up for it?

If I say I’m grateful for this life, am I present enough to experience it—or am I always reaching for the next thing?

Maybe gratitude isn’t something we announce. Maybe it’s something we embody.

Something that softens entitlement.
Something that makes us more generous.
Something that reminds us that so much of what makes a life beautiful cannot be bought, earned, posted, or proven.

There’s a difference between displaying gratitude and living gratefully. And perhaps the real question isn’t, “What am I grateful for?”

It’s: “If no one ever saw this life of mine, would I still recognize how sacred it is?”
