This morning, we gathered as a school family for our annual Grandparents and Grand-friends Mass. We were blessed with a record number of loved ones in attendance, and our hearts are full of gratitude for the faith, love and guidance our grandparents bring into the lives of our Panther students. A heartfelt thank you to Fr. Jose Maria Cabrera and Deacon Gary Patelski for leading us in the celebration of the Eucharist and helping make this morning such a meaningful expression of our Catholic faith.

Our 6th graders also played a key role in making this celebration possible, serving at Mass and volunteering before, during and after the liturgy. Thank you to our admissions team and Home & School Association for co-hosting this beautiful and joy-filled celebration. Thank you to all the grandparents and grand-friends, both near and far, for being such an important part of our Nouvel family!

Our 5th grade scientists wrapped up their unit on the Scientific Method with a hands-on experiment that had everyone asking, “How is that possible?!” Students put their skills to the test by making predictions, observing and experimenting to discover what happens when you push a pencil straight through a water-filled Ziploc bag.

Needless to say, they loved it. From curious predictions to surprised reactions, our Panthers saw firsthand how the scientific method helps us ask questions, test ideas and learn from the results.

Our Panthers in grades 4 through 12 are invited to audition for our fall show, Frozen Jr. Auditions are next Wednesday, September 23rd at the high school/junior high campus in the Performing Arts Center (PAC). Students can be dropped off on the back of the building at door #27 for auditions from 3:30 - 5:30 p.m. Information packets are available in the elementary main office and online at www.NouvelCatholic.org/Theater.

Yesterday there was an ant invasion in 2nd grade! Mrs. Ritter’s students walked into their classroom to discover their teacher was an ant! The students had a great day reading non-fiction books about ants and aphids, seeing a real life ant farm in action and of course the fun of having an ant for a teacher! We are so proud of our curious learners, discovering new things in 2nd grade!

In two weeks, our 5th graders will head to Hartley Outdoor Education Center where they will grow, learn and make lasting memories with their classmates, teachers and student leaders. To help make this experience possible, they will be hosting a pancake dinner fundraiser on Tuesday, October 13 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the elementary campus. Purchase your tickets ($14 for adults, $8 for children ages 3-12) in advance from the main office, from any 5th grader or forms can be turned in to your child's teacher. Our 5th graders cannot wait to serve our community and thank guests for their support.

Principal Kaul was blown away by how much our Panthers enjoyed their reading challenge during March's Reading Month! To keep the love of reading going all summer long she created a summer superhero reading challenge for our Panthers entering Y5-6th grade. In addition to tracking and sharing their reading hours, Principal Kaul created weekly videos to inspire our Panthers to explore new books, discover new themes and to keep turning those pages all summer long.

Not only did our Panthers absolutely crush it, but they also even read more than our teachers! While our teachers logged 1,228 hours of reading, our 67 participating students read 1,475 hours! We are so proud of the dedication, curiosity and love of reading our Panther superhero readers showed throughout the summer. To celebrate their accomplishments, students earned prizes for reaching different reading milestones - proudly modeled in this photo by Paws the Panther! Way to go, Panthers - keep reading, keep exploring and keep growing!

Happy Grandparents' Day! We are grateful for the role you play in the lives of our students and all you do to as part of our Nouvel family. Whether it's helping at an activity, getting Panthers too and from school, or the love and wisdom you pour into Nouvel, we appreciate each and every one of you.

We are grateful for another incredible week on campus together. As we wrap up week 3, here are a few of the many highlights happening at Nouvel Catholic Central!

- Kindergartners in Mrs. Alles class started their new writing journals this week.
- Mrs. Collison’s multi-age preschool classroom met their 5th grade prayer buddies in Mrs. Bojo’s classroom.
- Kindergarten and 3rd grade prayer buddies met for the first time and created prayer rocks to keep at home, as a reminder to always talk to Jesus.
- Mrs. Ritter’s second grade classroom spent time learning about different sentences (declarative, exclamatory, interrogative and imperative), visiting the church, doing science experiments and having so much fun learning together.
- Our entire campus came together in prayer on Friday for Patriot Day, for a special assembly and got to wear red, white and blue to show their American pride.

Great work, Panthers. Keep learning, loving and leading… courageously!

What better way to celebrate the first Friday of the school year than a Popcorn Friday! Thanks to the support of our Home and School Association and all of our amazing parent/grandparent/sibling volunteers, each Panther received a bag of popcorn as a special morning treat.
