September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, and our STCS community came together to show support, raise awareness, and make a difference.
Recently, students and staff across the district wore yellow and orange to honor children and families affected by cancer. Together, our schools also raised money to support four district families whose children are currently facing cancer.
We also celebrated a very special milestone at White Pine Middle School. Kali, a sixth-grade student, completed her last chemotherapy appointment in Ann Arbor, and her learning community sent her off with a heartfelt clap-out as she headed to her final treatment.
These moments remind us of the incredible compassion, strength, and support that exists within our school community. We are proud of our students and staff for coming together to support one another when it matters most.

We are excited to introduce a new District Data Dashboard that is live on the homepage of our STCS website, giving families, staff, community members and other stakeholders an accessible, comprehensive look at the district’s performance, progress and areas of opportunity.
The dashboard includes information on student performance, who we serve, what we offer, and how we manage our resources, and each measure includes a plain-language explanation of what the data means. By bringing this information together in one location, STCS hopes to make it easier for the community to understand both the district’s accomplishments and the areas where continued improvement is needed.
Users can navigate the tabs at the top of the dashboard and follow directions provided on the home page to explore individual areas of interest and better understand the data. Additional information can also be obtained in each indicator by clicking the View Data and information symbol.

Please...when you see a school bus with flashing red lights and the STOP arm extended, it means children are getting on or off the bus and you must stop.
❌ Do NOT pass the bus.
✅ Wait until the lights stop flashing and the bus starts moving again.

New this year, Heritage High School students have the opportunity to build one of the most valuable life skills of all, financial literacy. A new Personal Finance course has been added to the curriculum to ensure students are prepared to make informed financial decisions long after they leave high school.
The half-credit course is now a graduation requirement for all Michigan students beginning with the Class of 2028. At Heritage, the course is open to students in grades 10-12, with junior year being the recommended time to enroll.
Throughout the semester, students are exploring real-world topics that will help them confidently navigate adulthood. Course units include earning income, budgeting and saving, using credit responsibly, buying goods and services, investing and building wealth, understanding insurance and risk management, and paying taxes. Students will also learn about employee benefits, credit scores, student loans, FAFSA, grants, compound interest, identity theft prevention, and the long-term financial impact of educational and career choices.
"We are excited to offer Personal Finance as part of our course offerings," said Director of Curriculum and Learning Jamie Hales. "Students will develop practical financial skills that will support them long after graduation. This course equips our students with the knowledge they need to make informed financial decisions and build a strong foundation for their future."

The Heritage Varsity Volleyball team took 1st place in the Gold Bracket at the Mitten Bay Classic tournament this past Saturday!
The Hawks defeated Garber in the championship game in straight sets to claim the trophy!

White Pine Middle School's Learning Community 7-2 came together recently to create their learning community norms. Norms are shared community agreements built by everyone for a positive goal. Middle school students respond to these peer-created commitments because they have a voice in the entire process.
