Bridgeport’s backcourt has the potential to be something special this season, anchored by the steady play of Thomas McKinley. He’s not the flashiest guard on the floor, but his impact is undeniable. McKinley operates with poise, a high basketball IQ, and a natural feel for the game that allows him to control the pace and make the right reads consistently.
He’s proven he can score at all three levels — finishing through contact, knocking down the three, and showing a reliable mid-range touch. More importantly, he elevates the players around him. Whether he’s setting the table in transition or orchestrating in the half court, McKinley keeps Bridgeport’s offense flowing.
His early-season performances speak for themselves: a strong 27-point, 5-assist showing followed by a triple-double outing with 16 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists, If he continues producing at this level, Bridgeport’s backcourt could become one of the most productive and consistent units in the area. 🏁

I got a chance to check out Kyle Hunter and Derrick Clark Jr. during the Lavish Mega Scrimmage — and these two can really go. They started off a little slow as a unit, but once they settled in, Detroit Voyager Prep’s backcourt turned into a problem. When they got loose, it was buckets on repeat.
Kyle Hunter flashed true three-level scoring ability. He knocked down the three, showed a smooth and confident mid-range game, and wasn’t shy about attacking the rim — finishing above the defense multiple times. His versatility makes him a matchup issue and gives Voyager Prep a reliable go-to option when they need a bucket.
Derrick Clark Jr. put on a shooting display. Clark hit multiple threes throughout the scrimmage — including a couple from way beyond the arc — showing deep range and real confidence in his jumper. When he gets separation, it’s pretty much automatic.
Both players are firmly on the radar, and if this early look is any indication, they have a real chance to lead Detroit Voyager Prep to a standout season.

Freeland’s sharpshooter Wilson Huckeby put on an offensive clinic, pouring in 27 points in a win over Bridgeport.
The senior guard was locked in from deep, knocking down seven threes and stretching the defense all night. Huckeby controlled the pace, found rhythm early, and became the focal point of Freeland’s attack as the game wore on.
His shooting gravity opened the floor for his teammates, and every time Bridgeport made a push, Huckeby responded with a momentum-shifting shot. It was a disciplined, confident performance the type of outing that shows why he’s one of the area’s most dangerous perimeter threats. 🏁

Dionquavius “Boop” Hardy set the tone from the opening tip, delivering a commanding performance on both ends of the floor. The senior guard stuffed the stat sheet with 23 points, 7 assists, and 5 steals, showcasing his ability to control the game as a scorer, playmaker, and defensive disruptor.
Transfer guard Lemonte Ramon-Wiley gave the offense an additional spark, pouring in 20 points and knocking down four threes to stretch the defense and keep the momentum rolling.
In the interior, Terrell General anchored the paint with a dominant double-double. He finished with 14 points, 11 rebounds, and 5 blocks, impacting the game through physicality, rim protection, and second-chance opportunities.
Together, the trio powered a strong all-around showing and highlighted the balance, depth, and firepower this group brings to the floor. 🏁
Saginaw has some talent, and these young guns definitely got next. Jocquan Blackwell and Bruce Poindexter are already leading the pack. I got a glimpse of this group, and man — I can’t wait to see what they grow into.
Blackwell is a true floor general who can create his own shot and make plays for others. His feel for the game and IQ stand out every time he touches the ball. Poindexter is an absolute beast — his physicality, effort, and nonstop motor set the tone on both ends. You don’t see many kids play with that kind of intensity.
And you can’t forget about Jamarrion Hill, a pure sharpshooter who stepped up and knocked down clutch threes when his team needed them.
The future is bright for Saginaw basketball — this young core is just getting started.
