The 9/18 Cooking with Kern session gave students the opportunity to make Pizza tortellini. The students love this easy dish.

The first session of the Cooking with Kern grant program was held on 9/11. Mr Kern instructed about 20 students how to how to make breaded pork chops and salsa rice. Students learn how to cook using a two burner hot plate, then get to enjoy eating their creation. Then students must clean up and wash dishes and clean up their areas. Students are able to take home any extras they have left to eat later. This is a grant program funded through different sources including the STCS Foundation. This week’s ingredients were provided by the company Edgenuity, and the District’s account rep was the guest judge. Edgenuity also sponsored two gift cards for the winning team that had the tastiest creation.

Mackinaw started its Fall Farm to Table project this week. Students helped put 60 chicks in the coop, and set up their food and water. Over the next eight weeks, students will help care for the animals, feeding and watering the birds. The birds will be fully grown and in eight weeks and taken to get processed, and given away to the students for free pantry events known as the Mackinaw Market.
