Congratulations to Mr. & Mrs. Harris on closing on their new home in Saginaw. This couple was able to secure a mortgage through our housing partner NACA - Neighborhood Assistance Corporation of America. We were more than happy to host their closing and watch them sign those final papers on their new home.

NACA holds true to its word as they lead the fight for economic justice: no down payment, no closing costs or fees, no mortgage insurance.

You, too, can become a NACA homeowner today!

Yes women can do skilled trades too! Student Hannah Molda is a promising carpenter. She loves working with her hands and seeing tasks through step by step. She has the right attitude, accuracy, and dexterity required to produce quality projects. We look forward to watching her growth and seeing her success!

Although many career counselors and high school staff members push students to college, working jn a skilled trade is a valuable alternative. Many people enjoy their work and thrive in careers as skilled tradesmen. With so many opportunities and high growth potential, considering a job in a skilled trade is certainly worthwhile. Our students are putting their skills to use while still learning and getting better at something that is very useful in society. Trades will always be important.

Today four of our students worked at the home we are building in the City of Saginaw on 14th Street. Our program allows students to gain valuable hands-on experience in important trade sectors. Through exposure to core skills common to many trades, YDC students will have many career choice options.

We are rebuilding communities by building the lives of our youth!

We had four students test on Friday for Reading Construction Blueprints and all four passed: 3 with an 80 and 1 with a 90! Congratulations to these young adults on making progress towards their goals!

Congratulations to the Youngest Mogul in the City! We are extremely proud of you and you have our full support.

I am proud to announce that I am one of the recipients of the Black Press Grant Award sponsored by the (NABJ) National Association of Black Journalists and Chan Zuckerberg Initiative.

The process included pitching an idea on how COVID-19 affected your community. I pitched how COVID-19 affected education and my proposal was accepted. Not only will I write a couple articles on this subject, but the grant also affords me the opportunity to film a documentary.

A couple of months ago, I was denied the opportunity to participate in Saginaw Soup by Saginaw Future because of my age. I was told adults did not want to compete against kids because of "the cute factor." I will admit I was discouraged and disappointed by this rejection. But I didn't let this stop me from pitching SWAG to other platforms. And now I will be adding a documentary to my resume.

I want to thank my parents for keeping me encouraged and pushing me to break barriers regardless of my age. Thank you to Bob Johnson and Councilman George Copeland for the letters of recommendation. Thank you to my Saginaw community for all the support and constant encouragement. But most importantly, I thank God for gifting me with an idea and opening doors for me despite my age. He the real GOAT!
