🍎✨ Each year, Safford Rotary Club recognizes a Teacher of Distinction from each Graham County school district to honor the educators who make an extraordinary impact on the lives of our youth. Through our scholarship fundraising efforts, we understand the important role teachers play in shaping future success, and we are proud to celebrate their dedication and service to our community.

This year’s Phyllis Ann Bryce Teacher of Distinction for Dorothy Stinson School is Yesenia Castro! 👏

Principal Michael Moreno shared that Yesenia has served as a first-grade teacher at Dorothy Stinson School for the past fourteen years and is recognized as a master teacher who approaches every student with kindness, compassion, and a commitment to helping them succeed.

Yesenia is known for her deep knowledge of first-grade curriculum and state standards, as well as her ability to meet students where they are academically and emotionally. She creates a structured classroom environment where students thrive, tailoring lessons to challenge advanced learners while providing additional support for students who need it most. Her dedication and understanding have made a lasting impact on countless students and families.

Beyond the classroom, Yesenia plays an important role on the school’s Student Study Team, helping identify strategies and resources to support struggling students across campus. She is also committed to continued professional growth and has recently taken on the challenge of becoming National Board Certified.

Dorothy Stinson School is proud to honor Yesenia Castro as their 2026 Teacher of Distinction for her leadership, dedication, and unwavering commitment to student success.

As part of this recognition, Safford Rotary honors recipients with a Teacher of Distinction certificate and a cash gift as a small token of appreciation for all they do for our students and community.

Please have your student choose two different items just in case their first choice runs out.
Students will also receive a paper copy tomorrow to take home. Thank you!

Teacher Appreciation Week is May 4th–May 8th!�To help families who would like to show their appreciation, we invited teachers to fill out a short form with their favorites and preferences. This is simply a helpful guide for those who wish to participate—it is completely optional and not required.

Please join us on Monday, May 11th, for an informative and fun evening! This event is geared towards incoming 7th graders, or incoming middle school students that are new to the district. We look forward to seeing you there!

Pre purchases is no longer available. To purchase a yearbook you will have to wait until 5/18. There is a limited number of extra yearbooks so this is first come first serve.

Hi! My name is Shelly Wilson. I am wife and a mom to 5 and a Nana (grandma) to 3 little boys. I have 4 daughters and 1 son. 2 of my kids are adults and living their best life, and I have 3 who are still at home. 12th, 11th and 5th grades. We moved to the Gila Valley a little over a yr ago from Tucson, AZ.
I currently have my own business. I love volunteering and spending time with my family.

Shelly is an amazing parent volunteer! 💙�Our parent volunteers have dedicated so much of their time, energy, and heart into everything PTO has accomplished this year. We truly couldn’t do it without them!
