Thanks to Jared Campbell for visiting with our Lower School today!
Jared is an award winning singer/songwriter who has traveled around the country performing for hundreds of schools over the past decade. He’s shared the stage with Jason Mraz, Gavin Degraw, The Zac Brown Band and even Journey! His music has also been featured on MTV and he’s been acknowledged by Billboard Magazine as one of the top independent musicians in the northeast. His main focus is allowing his music to impact the lives of his listeners by experiencing joy, finding comfort through pain, and looking past obstacles towards living a better life.
His songs are said to be uplifting, thought provoking and emotionally heartfelt. Jared mixes humor, stories of life on road and personal experience to relate to the audience set before him. Young people have walked away with life changing experiences such as finding their true passion in life, appreciating others around them and ceasing to bully those that are different, stopping their attempts at su***de and forming life lasting relationships with the friends and family surrounding them.
Ever heard of Parkour? Well, SRDS is hosting a mini course for students to learn all about it!
The word parkour derives from 'parcours du combattant' (obstacle course), the classic obstacle course method of military training proposed by Georges Hébert. Parkour (also known as Freerunning, or L'art du Deplacement) is all about overcoming challenge and improving oneself, with aims of being self sufficient and helping others. As a movement art, parkour teaches natural human movements like jumping, crawling, and climbing. Kids use these movements to creatively navigate and play in the spaces around them, giving them a sense of control over themselves and their environment.
Mini courses in full swing! "French Breads and Jams"... yes please!

The Junior prom committee spent much of Saturday baking over 100 pies and preparing cinnamon buns for the "Pies for Prom" promotion!
On this Veterans Day, we extend a special thanks to SRDS alum and current Alumni Council member David Leffler '04 for stopping by campus today to visit and share with our Upper School students about his unique and diverse journey from SRDS to Princeton to the Marines and now to the business world.
David gave great advice about allowing yourself to make mistakes and to grow from them... to keep learning - especially about yourself... to consider advice from others and aim to find common ground with those around you... and to own your decisions. He is a true believer that diligence and determination may sometimes yield little or no apparent progress in the short term, but they do bear fruit in the long term.

The Seeing Eye Foundation visited with a seeing eye dog as well as two puppies in training. They talked about the program, did a Q and A with kids and there was an opportunity for our kids to pet the dogs in training.
This kicks off our LS fundraising for "Pennies for Puppies" fundraising efforts to support the Seeing Eye Program.
