Ringing in the summer 🔔🇺🇸☀️
That’s a wrap on KA 2025–2026!

What an incredible year it’s been...and incredibly fast too!

And we know, we know, we know...we use the word “grateful” a lot in our posts. But truthfully, it’s the word that continued to sit in our hearts week after week.

Grateful for the families who trust us and for the community members who welcomed us. Grateful for the neighbors, grandparents, farmers, business owners, volunteers, friends, and familiar faces who played a role in these kids’ lives in ways that may have seemed small, but were actually incredibly grand.

Some small things to highlight!

💙 65+ excursions & immersions
💚 350+ hours spent outside learning and living
💙 New friendships, new partnerships, and a growing reach into our community
💚 Countless memories we hope these kids will carry long after the final bell

Like the song says, maybe “dreaming small” is really about remembering that the little things often are the big things:
A genuine conversation.
A shared meal.
A muddy pair of hands and feet.
A teacher who cared.
A childhood rooted well.

As you enter your summer, don't buy the lie you have to do it all. It's the simplest of things done with the greatest love that leave the biggest impact.

And don't worry! We'll be seeing you throughout the summer as we sprinkle in a few updates and share exciting things ahead for KA!

Until then, from ours to yours, sending you a hug, hand shake, fist bump, high five, happy-dance all full of gratitude for following us along this year. Wishing you all things good as you step into summer.

God is good.

We’ll see you at the bell in the fall. – KA 💙💚

Buckle up and hold onto your hats! KA’s coming in hot with a FULL week’s worth of recapping: full hearts, full week…fully tired!

💙 Monday, author (and friend!) Meg Riesterer Kubesh was back and had the kids jumping into the process of writing and publishing a real book. The surprise topic pulled from the basket? Our school! Between the brainstorming, rhyming, drawing, editing, and illustrating..creativity was flying all over the place. Stay tuned for what's coming this fall!

💚 Tuesday we wrapped up our year of Spanish with a Cinco de Mayo celebration, talked about the significance of the day, and celebrated a Golden Birthday too. Safe to say it was a pretty festive Tuesday!

💙 Wednesday we packed up the vehicles and headed down to the river bottom where our awesome host, Andy Holt, shared his knowledge for conservation and habitats, native plants, and the basic needs of local wildlife (the teachers/parents learned a lot too!) Between all the hands-on stations and activities, the kids soaked up a LOT of learning!

💚 Here’s a number for you: 25.
That’s how many hours we spent outside just this past week learning, exploring, creating, climbing, digging, running, and playing.

💙 We rounded out the week back in the Lecy “Outback,” where Morgan taught us about natural vs. man-made dams, water filtration, and beavers (complete with getting to stand on and peek inside a real beaver lodge!) The rest of the day was spent exploring before heading home for the weekend.

Whew!

If you made it this far into the recap, just know how deeply grateful we continue to be for you cheering us on. As always, equally cheering you on (wherever you may be!) as you head into another week! – KA 💙💚

Teacher Appreciation Week!

(Cue the theme music to "Rocky"…we’ll give you a minute to get that stuck in your head for the rest of the night)

Featuring the MVPs of heart, a lot of patience…and probably a lot of caffeine!

These are our people!

A little spotlight on ours, but a whole lot of gratitude for educators everywhere—thank you for championing kids. – KA 💙💚

Heading into the last couple of weeks of 2025-2026!

No razzle-dazzle, just entering the remaining weeks here at KA! Here's some quick snapshots:

💙 Our gracious neighbor, Cari, opened her home to share her soap making process. It included science, freeze pops, and "Can we go see your chickens?!"

💚 Spent time in the story of Samuel this week and learned to recognize God’s voice and respond with a willing heart.

💙 We enjoyed having our last guitar lessons before break and will be winding down with Spanish after the 5th!

💚 Baked muffins for some May Day baskets to gift to others.

We have a lot of exciting (and busy!) things on the horizon in the coming days..stayed tuned!

We hope that you and yours are feeling the same joy as you head into the week ahead! All the sunshine your way – KA 💙💚

A KA Weekly Recap!

A normal rhythm here at KA! Here's some quick tidbits as you scroll on this Sunday evening:

💙 "Jonah and the Whale" led by our friend Joy reminded us that even in the detour, there’s a calling.

💚 Spending our time outdoors, talking about "Earth Day," collecting dandelions for "dandelion tea," and celebrating yet another birthday in-house..these are the days!

FUN highlights from our week!

💙 Snuck in another KA parents' gathering (missing a few, it's hard to get the whole crew together!) Thank you to the Lecy family for sharing their slice of heaven in their "Outback."

💚 On Friday we hosted our 2nd annual "Legacy Breakfast." An absolute honor to host some of the people that bring so much support and joy to make KA what it is.

Not much more to say other than that we're just grateful for it all. So from our table to yours, wishing you a little extra goodness as you head into a new week. – KA 💙💚

If you needed proof that Minnesota can flip a switch weather wise, this week was it!

We logged 17+ hours outside this week! ☀️

Lessons sometimes took place at picnic tables or in hammocks and included a whole lot of bare feet! Other than the weather, here's a super quick recap to round out the weekend:

💙 In addition to the normal mix: Spring conferences, Spanish and guitar.

💚 We took up the invitation to enjoy our neighbor, CMCS's, matinee performance of "Charlotte's Web." Their students did a wonderful job!

💙 We knew the weather was ice cream-worthy on Thursday, so we threw together a pop-up float stand just to raise a little jingle and pass it along to someone else in our community. Community involvement and service are core to KA, and it’s not lost on us how supported we feel ourselves.
The kids were chanting, “Come and get your KA float!” every time someone walked up. 😆

💚 Rounded out the week and did an activity that prepped us for "Earth Day" this upcoming week!

From ours to yours, may your hearts (and windows!) be wide open as you enter into this next week! – KA 💙💚

Just arriving from orbit, KA Weekly Recap! 🌘🚀

Unlike the timely arrival of Artemis II, here are some very quick tidbits from this short, past week at KA!

💙 Artemis II! Talking about gravitational pull, orbiting, history, and all things this mission involved! Complete with our own moon artwork and (attempted) rocket splash landings.

💚 The chicks started hatching! Families and those-in-tow came and went to watch our friends come into the world this past weekend.

💙 Other highlights were that our PreK worked on attributes of shapes in math: sides, vertices & where we see them in the world. Our uppers were able to unbox some of their next-step curriculum..whoo!

💚 We also have an author visit coming up, so the upper kids discussed what they'd maybe like to write a book about: The true story of Big Foot? The chicken that stole Jed's Croc fidget? The rainbow that never came again? Stay tuned for these riveting tales!

And of course, a whole lot of fresh Minnesota air filled our lungs and fueled our learning. Have to lean into all these seasons Minnesota dishes out!

From ours to yours, sending you into the rest of the week with only MN sunshine and joy! – KA 💙💚

KA Weekly Recap (a little-a lot late…we know, we know!)

MN gave us a blip of warm weather as we headed into our week ahead of Easter. Here's a few snapshots!

💙 Our friend Joy was back and she spent time in the story of David and Goliath. Great reminder of how God keeps showing up through the small and unlikely, even the ones nobody expected.

💚 We celebrated another birthday and dad, Nick, came in and candled the eggs! Tentatively, April 9th-ish we should have some new life hatching!

💙 By Thursday, it was all things Easter! We made crafts, Resurrection gardens, partook in an indoor egg hunt (thank you, "MN spring-clinging-to-winter" weather) and enjoyed "The King of Kings" + popcorn to round out the week.

And then Easter Sunday. The same truth it's always been: the stone was rolled away and death didn’t win. It never was going to.
That’s everything!

From ours to yours, sending you into the remainder of the week with the notion that because Jesus didn't stay in the grave, neither does our hope.

Until next time, – KA 💙💚

Meet the Engine Room: The KA Committee!

The three, perfectly-imperfect women pictured here are the team behind the team at KA. They are working moms that are the:

• Accountants
• Scheduling gurus (on a good day)
• Grant writers
• Policy readers
• Advocates
• Budget stretchers
• Substitutes
• Janitors
• The "Yes!" and "No." women
• Encouragers
• Champions of our teachers (everywhere!)
• Professional "PIVOT!" people (would probably trademark that if "Friends" hadn’t already)
• Social media content creators (...this post just got super awkward 👀)

When people ask, “So, how did this come to be?” It's usually followed by, “How much time do you have?”

All jokes aside, there was no wand-waving or “presto!” moment. We have no cinematic rationale for how we came to be. KA was prayed over, planned, reworked (x100) and stepped into with truly little more than faith and a notion of, “Whelp, we’re doing this. Let's go!"

Looking back, it's funny how God can place something on your heart and it rarely comes with a blueprint. You actually find that you don’t move because it will be easy (quite the opposite, really!) You move because you’re called to.

Do we figure things out as we go? Ooh-wee. Yes!
Do we get it wrong sometimes? Oof..yes..yep!
Do we care deeply about this place and these families? Unequivocally, always.

From ours to yours, sending you into this Easter weekend with nothing but hope, grit, and the promise that Sunday brings. – KA 💙💚
