“Yes!!! We have a 3-day weekend!!” That’s what most people think when holidays like today pop up, right? If you know a veteran personally, you know that today is so much more than just a holiday… it’s a day to take a moment and reflect on the struggles & challenges that veterans have to endure. I’ve learned that the struggles of serving in the military extend far beyond time served in combat… that the sacrifice veterans have given is a lifelong sacrifice that most people can’t even begin to understand… it’s a sacrifice of physical and mental health, a sacrifice of social and emotional health and well-being, and a sacrifice of lifelong struggles with the most important thing humans have largely lost touch with: meaningful connection and relationships. If you know a veteran personally, perhaps think about taking time to check in and ask the simple question, “how are you doing?”

One of the things that brings me *so much* joy is teaching single subject teaching credential candidates at Sacramento State… just when I thought it couldn’t be a more amazing program, I stumbled upon this Dia de los Mu***os celebration in the library quad. It is my DREAM to build a school where every culture represented on campus is celebrated and acknowledged through their traditions and customs, much like the beautiful celebration so lovingly displayed for everyone on the Sac State campus tonight. Happy Dia de los Mu***os! 🫶😊🙌
