Important to know….

📣📣 Considering an e-bike for your child/teen? Know your e-bike class and the rules before you buy!

Ask yourself:
• Is it street legal?
• What is its top speed?
• Where can it be legally operated?
• Does my child understand the rules of the road?
• Does it have the required safety equipment?

E bike laws in California:
🚲 Class 1 (pedal assist) & class 2 (throttle assist) up to 20 mph: Can be operated in the bike lane and on the sidewalk in Rocklin. Helmet required for riders under the age of 18.
🚲 Class 3 (pedal assist up to 28 mph): Riders must be 16+. Helmet required for all ages, and ride only in the bike lane or street.
🛴 E-scooters: requires a license or permit. Helmet required. Cannot ride on the sidewalk
🏍 E-moto or OHV: off highway only (private property or designated OHV park), NOT street legal

Licenses are not required for e-bike class 1-3, though class 3 is limited to 16+
🚳 All e-bikes classes are not allowed in Rocklin parks/trails or on the pump track.

Safety reminders:
🚵 Always wear a properly fitted helmet
🚴‍♂️ Ride predictably in the bike lane WITH the flow of traffic
🚶‍♀️ Watch for pedestrians (and yield to them)
🛑 Stop at stop signs and obey traffic signals
🚴 Only Class 1 e-bikes are allowed on RUSD K-8 campuses

Do your research and purchase an e-bike that matches your child’s size, skill, and riding ability. Say NO to e-motos.

As the school year comes to a close, we're celebrating the incredible students of Sunset Ranch Elementary School's Leaders of the Pack program!

Throughout the year, these young leaders chose to uplift a variety of causes in their community, learning that leadership means serving others. Through after-school fundraisers, they raised money to support neighbors experiencing homelessness and chose The Gathering Inn to help make a meaningful impact in the lives of our guests.

TGI's Darlene Cullivan recently had the privilege of meeting with these students and hearing their hearts for the community. One student shared, "A little bit of money can help in big ways." Another said she joined Leaders of the Pack because she wanted to learn how to serve others.

Their compassion reminds us that philanthropy has no age requirement. These students are learning, growing, and spreading love while helping create a culture of care and compassion for others.

Please join us in thanking the students, families, and educators of Sunset Ranch Elementary for inspiring hope through generosity, service, and kindness. 💜

Thank you, RPD, for your partnership!

We wanted to provide the community with an update regarding youth e-bike safety in Rocklin and the impact the Rocklin Unified School District Class 2 e-bike policy has had so far in 2026.

In 2025, Rocklin experienced 21 collisions involving e-bike riders between the ages of 11-15. The district adopted the Class 2 e-bike ban for K-8 campuses in December of 2025 and enforcement began on February 2nd of this year. Since that date, we have had a 64% reduction in collisions involving an 11-15 year old e-bike rider, compared to the same time period last year (11 vs 4). The numbers do not lie and the policy is clearly having a positive impact.

While the larger e-bike issue is not completely solved and we still have work to do related to evening and weekend behavior, particularly in parking lots and parks, these early results are extremely encouraging and show that the policy is making a difference. As we head into summer and eventually the start of the new school year this fall, this is also a good reminder that K-8 campuses within RUSD are “Class 1 Only” (no Class 2, 3, scooters or motos) when it comes to e-transportation.

We are incredibly proud of the work done in partnership with Rocklin Unified School District and want to specifically recognize the courage and leadership shown by the district in taking action on an issue that directly impacts student safety. Their efforts have very likely prevented serious injuries and saved lives.

Thank you to our officers, school staff, parents, and community members who continue to work together to improve safety for everyone.
