More good days at school are built through more than academics alone.
Research from Yale School of Medicine found that students who participate in social-emotional learning programs experience benefits across both well-being and school success, including reduced anxiety, stress, depression, and suicidal thoughts; increased academic achievement and school functioning; stronger social-emotional skills; and a greater sense of belonging and connection with peers and teachers.
That matters because students are better prepared to learn, participate, and build relationships when they feel supported, connected, and equipped with tools to navigate challenges.
Social-emotional learning helps schools support the whole student.

Student mental health is not separate from student success.
When students are navigating mental health challenges, it can affect how they show up at school, how they connect with others, how they participate in learning, and how supported they feel throughout the day.
Schools play a critical role in student well-being because they are often where students spend much of their time, build relationships, and access support.
This Mental Health Month, the theme is More Good Days, Together. For students, more good days begin with school communities that prioritize connection, belonging, emotional safety, and meaningful support.

May is Mental Health Month, and this year’s theme is More Good Days, Together.
For students, more good days at school are built through connection, belonging, emotional safety, and support. Mental health is not separate from learning. When students feel seen, included, and equipped with tools to navigate challenges, they are better prepared to participate, build relationships, and succeed.
At Changing Perspectives, we believe social-emotional learning and inclusion are essential parts of creating school communities where all students can thrive.

What an incredible few days at the East Asia Regional Council of Schools EARCOS 2026 conference.
Nearly 1,000 educators from across the region and around the world came together to share ideas, challenge thinking, and learn from one another. The energy throughout the conference reflected a shared commitment to strengthening inclusion, teaching, and student well-being.
Executive Director Sam Drazin’s keynote, The Power of Small: How Everyday Actions Build Inclusive Schools, focused on how everyday decisions shape academic, physical, and social inclusion.
Educators were not just reflecting, they were thinking about what this looks like in practice in their own schools and communities.
Thank you to EARCOS for creating space for this kind of connection and learning, and to the educators who continue to turn ideas into action every day.
We look forward to continuing these conversations with the SENIA community and across our global partnerships in the months ahead.

Inclusion is not a moment.
It is a daily practice.
Small shifts in classroom instruction.
Small adjustments to physical space.
Small changes in how we structure social participation.
Over time, those decisions shape school culture.
At the East Asia Regional Council of Schools Teachers' Conference—EARCOS 2026—in Bangkok, Changing Perspectives Executive Director Sam Drazin will deliver the keynote, “The Power of Small: How Everyday Actions Build Inclusive Schools.”
Through academic, physical, and social lenses, this session challenges educators to rethink change not as a sweeping reform, but as consistent, intentional action.
Sustainable inclusion begins with everyday decisions.
