Congratulations wolverines!

This morning, we say goodbye to this year’s eighth-grade wrestlers as they accepted their promotion certificates. From the first day of wrestling practice to the final match of the season, it has been amazing to watch you grow both on and off the mat. We are proud of all you have accomplished this year and wish you the best as you move on to high school. We look forward to seeing you continue your journey next year.

Yesterday, the Wolverines competed at the 2026 Ponderosa Bruin Brawl, our first TOC qualifying tournament of the season—and they came out strong.

The day started on a high note with Arash taking 1st place in JV at 108 lbs.

On the Varsity level, Michael, Jose (4th), and Abdul all won their first matches.
• Michael battled his way into the finals and finished in 2nd place.
• Jose (4th) advanced to the semifinals, suffered a tough loss, then fought back through consolation to earn 3rd place.
• Junior (Jose 3rd) lost his first match but showed grit and determination, wrestling his way through the consolation bracket to the finals and finishing 4th place.
• Abdul, our varsity heavyweight at 205 lbs, wrestled his way to the finals and finished in 4th place.

A big Congratulations to Michael Castillos, Junior Guzman (Jose 3rd), and Jose Guzman (4th) for being the first three Wolverines to qualify for TOC this season.

Smedberg Wrestling 2024–2025 End-of-Year Banquet

Thank you to our families, friends, wrestlers and coaches who joined us last night to celebrate an incredible season of hard work, growth, and success—way to go, Wolverines!

A heartfelt goodbye to our 8th-grade wrestlers. Your dedication and leadership will be missed—best of luck on your next journey!

Sacramento Regionals

The wolverines were at Sacramento Regionals this past weekend February 8, 2024, our last tournament of the season before TOCs.

Below are the results for the tournament.

Tournament Highlights:

Cabrien Yang won his first match but lost his second match to his opponent Charlie Fox (Sierra Sabers). In the consolation rounds he wrestled 3 more matches for a final 4th place finish.

Jose Guzman moved up to Varsity in this tournament. He lost his first match to Wyatt Loftis (Sutter Middle School) but in the consolation rounds, he wrestled 5 matches to take a 6th place finish. He was 1 place shy in qualifying for TOCs.

Derrek Nguyen won his first 2 matches. In his third match, he sustain an injury and had to forfeit the rest of his matches.

The boys in the 142 bracket, Danny Tran, Simon Garcia and Eli Tran wrestled their way into the final rounds. Danny and Simon faced off for a 3rd and 4th place finish respectively. While Eli fought against Everett Jones (Gold Trail) in the finals and loss, taking a 6th place finish.

In this tournament, Cabrien Yang and Danny Tran are 1st time TOC qualifiers.
With his 4th place finish, Simon Garcia is now a 2x TOC qualifier. Well done boys!

In the Girls Pool, Lillianna Snapp and Bella Hamblin both wrestled their way in their weight classes to take 2nd place finishes. Nice wins ladies!
