time, were contractor and client. Russ provided Dave’s company with guarding services for a number of years when he decided to quit his corporate job to start a security consulting business. About a year or so later, Russ was attending a Utah security regulatory board meeting (boring, we know; he is a member of the board, so he has to go) when he heard the news that the state legislature passed some new changes to the security officer education mandate. The basic education training, which requires that individuals complete a 24-hour, instructor-led training to be eligible for a state guard license, could now be completed online. Russ became very excited and he had an idea. That very same day, he called Dave and asked him to be his business partner. Dave could help Russ create a 24-hour online training program for the Utah guard license. Dave said ‘yes’! And, so it was, that Defencify was born. For five months, Russ and Dave wrote, and wrote, and wrote until they had a 403-page security training manual covering the roles and responsibilities of private security officers. Using their manual, Russ and Dave built an online security training school at defencify.teachable.com. On August 24, 2017, Defencify became the first company to receive approval by Utah’s Division of Occupational & Professional Licensing to offer their online training program to the public. Although Defencify is Utah-based, Russ and Dave's students come from all over! Whether they are looking to obtain a state guard license, earn Continuing Education Units to maintain their license, or just looking to enhance their knowledge on security, Defencify's Online Training School is available 24/7.

This state-approved online course meets Hawaii's pre-assignment training requirement under HRS §463-10.5 (Act 208), giving aspiring security professionals the flexibility to complete their required training from anywhere in the islands, on any device, and on their own schedule.

With thousands of graduates and a 92% completion rate, we're proud to make trusted, compliant security training more accessible than ever.

The course covers:

- Hawaii security guard law and Act 208
