Researchers have found that 8 weeks of 1-on-1 tutoring leads to neuroplasticity (brain re-wiring) in students, which ultimately improves their problem solving, attention, working memory, and cognitive processes.

Iuculano et al. (2015) demonstrated that 8 weeks of 1-on-1 tutoring improved poor performance and induced widespread changes in brain activity in children with mathematical learning disabilities. Functional magnetic resonance imagining (fMRI) studies of these students indicated that tutoring-induced neuroplasticity occurred within the parietal, prefrontal, and ventral temporal-occipital areas, which are brain regions important for successful numerical problem solving.
