ROP Graduates Jumpstart their Careers

32 students were honored by San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools (SBCSS) for successfully completing the Community Health Worker and Drone Pilot Training courses respectively. The two low-cost courses are offered by the San Bernardino County Regional Occupation Program (SBC ROP). Students who enrolled in these summer courses ranged from 18 to 75 years old.

“Each one of these outstanding graduates took the initiative to further their education,” said County Superintendent Ted Alejandre. “Their gained knowledge and skills will help create endless opportunities for their future. It is an incredible achievement to witness.”

💬Engaging discussion questions!

In our new middle school career exploration modules, discussion questions give instructors the opportunity to further learning and differentiate instruction to meet student understanding and abilities.

These questions (“Let’s Talk About It!”) are posed to students directly on slides, and more advanced alternatives for instructors are provided in the Speaker Notes.

Ideas for implementation: If students do not feel comfortable sharing and speaking with the whole class, instructors may instead ask students to:
▪️Turn and share their thoughts with a partner or small group
▪️Write or draw their answers to submit
▪️Write in a personal journal to keep their responses
▪️Share on a discussion board
Instructors can select the questions most useful for their class, and instructors should feel empowered to modify or rephrase questions as needed.

⭐️Our new middle school career exploration series emphasizes both introspective and experiential skills as students prepare for their future careers. The first 10 modules are available now—free! https://www.mbashop.org/course-package-middle-school-career-exploration-download.aspx

Meet your State FFA Secretary, Makena Stanisai! Makena is an alumnus of the St. Jeanne de Lestonnac School FFA and the second state officer to be elected from their chapter. Makena has competed in BIG, Impromptu Public Speaking, Extemporaneous Public Speaking, and Floriculture! 💐Her SAE consisted of serving as the marketing director for Kavanagh Co. Jam. Fun fact - this Southern region girl has watched Elvis 13 times in theaters! 🎦

When she's not repping the blue jacket, you can find Makena at the beach 🏖️with her family and friends or doing some of her favorite things, including singing🎤, cooking👩‍🍳, and calligraphy.

If Makena could spend one whole day doing something, it'd easily be Christmas shopping. There's no better way to combine her two favorite things - Christmas 🎄🎅 and shopping🛍️! "I can already imagine the Christmas outfit, the cold weather, the music, and the hot cocoa!"

Say 👋to Makena!

Congratulations to Gracie Yost for winning Supreme Champion Gilt! Your hard work and dedication paid off this week 🐷 Gracie also placed 4th overall in Showmanship!

Some of you may recognize this familiar face - Hunter Andrade! She is this week's and a past state FFA officer hailing from Tracy FFA. After completing her degree in ag education from Chico State, Hunter's life led her to Dallas Theological Seminary, where she manages the media production office producing the online education and global initiatives of the seminary.

While what she does now is different from her ag education degree, Hunter realized the skills and experiences she gained while in FFA were really transferrable, and she uses those skills multiple times a day in her job.

"Because of my experiences in FFA, I am able to clearly communicate and work collaboratively on teams. I also feel equipped to be a leader in any arena I find myself in because I know what I am capable of and how to work with others."

When asked what advice she would give to current FFA members, Hunter said, "Glean what you can from your time in the blue jacket. It will serve you well - I promise."
