Re: Poems (ACOVP) by Dylan Dunne
Many know of poetic forms like limericks and haiku. But ever hear of "clerihew" "tanka" "epigram" "chinquain" or "terse verve?" Here, writtten and illustrated by a gifted 12 year old are all these forms and more. And, yes, the subject matter of each poem is unnerving and one may wonder what negatives will appoint the young author's future. This book accompanies "Wait What Do You Mean?" as illustrative of the fascination and exacting talent (word and pictures), without social consciousness of subject matter, of one on the autism spectrum. The good news is that the young boy author is now well into adulthood without any untoward or violent issues despite his early fascination with blood, guts and violent behavior. Both books are available for your perusal or purchase at the Calif. State Fair Authors booth in building A/B every day through July 28. The author's mom, Martha Dunne, penner of WWDYM, will be present at the booth July 19, 21 and 26 if you prefer personalized signed copies.

Thanks to all who stopped by the state fair's author's booth to share stories or buy a book. I'm still relishing thoughts of the middle school teacher who purchased Dylan's poetry book (written when he was in 8th grade) to share with her class!

This review is from: ''Wait, What Do You Mean?'': Asperger's Tell and Show (Paperback)
This book does not preach - it doesn't not talk down to you - it does not present dry, boring facts for you to wade through. It's more like a mystery - clue after clue after clue is presented with an AHA! and the light comes on. We get to see how the author's son, Dylan, fit into the mold of an Aspie from birth. And everyone out there who loves an Aspie of our own will clearly recognize the signs. The author tells her story, but it's amazingly very similar to ours.

As an Aspie myself (self diagnosed at 47) with a grown Aspie son - I get it. And I like very much how the information is presented here. Both in the sense of revelation - one's whole life suddenly and thankfully FINALLY making sense (as mine did) and also in the words of Aspies themselves.

This is a very upbeat and loving and positive book. I like it. I go back and reread things from it more than once, which typically I don't do. ;)
