The SCC Choirs have a rich history of choral music education and performance that started in 1968. Clive Mefford ('68-70) and Doreen Irwin ('77-13) are some of the notable SCC choral professors who have help shaped our current program. The ensembles have traveled and performed in seventeen different countries and have participated twice in performing masterworks at Carnegie

Hall. The College Choir and Vocal Ensembles rehearse and perform a diverse range of choral literature from traditional to contemporary and from Western to Non-Western traditions.

This past Thursday, we had our artist's recital! Daniel Ostrom, our vocal program's mentor and one of the most critical students we have in our department, performed a themed repertoire around love and death that was absolutely moving. It was presented by our vocal program director, Daniel Paulson, seen in this post with Ostrom and our fabulous accompanist, Paul Salzberg. They all made it happen, showed up, and showed out for someone our department loves and is honored to have among us, along with all our wonderful attendees. Thank you to all who attended and made this happen, it was a wonderful event!

Hello Sacramento! This Friday, December 12th from 7:00-9:00pm at our theater in PAC 150, we're having our Festival of Music. This festival will be featuring SCC's Choral Ensemble, our applied music students, faculty, and invited high school students performing an assortment of musical pieces we've been perfecting all semester. The choir is performing things from improvisatory pieces created from handbells and our choir's gorgeous voices, to a number of contemporary pop hits arranged for a choral setting, and even a traditional Hungarian folk song! Our applied students, along with our faculty and invited high school students, will be performing a number of solo and instrumental pieces from their repertoire they've been building this year.

Its $20 for general admission, and $10 for student admission. Our music department would greatly appreciate your support in this endeavor, as we've been working quite hard at this all semester.

Hey Sac City College! After this upcoming Thanksgiving break, our Vocal Choral program has a lot of events coming up. All of them are free (except where noted), so there's no reason not to come! We got 7 musical events on our calendar, and any and all attendance would be greatly appreciated by our working students and staff. Some of our very talented Tenor section knew they wouldn't have time to practice together over Thanksgiving Break, but here they are doing an impromptu rehearsal to make sure they're on top of everything for our upcoming Choir Exchange and Festival of Music. The showtimes are Friday, May 10th, 7:00pm; Saturday, May 11th, 7:00pm, and Sunday, May 12th, 2:00pm, in the Main Theater inside the Performing Arts Center (PAC 150) at Sacramento City College. The Sacramento City College Choir is hard at work creating a wonderful concert production of Stephen Schwartz's beloved musical, "Pippin." We are loving this musical and putting together our show and cannot WAIT to present it to you. Costumes, antics, swords, and a pit orchestra await your arrival. Please come to one of the three performances (or all! We'd love to see you multiple times 😀):

Bring your songs, poems, monologues, stories, etc. and let's have some fun! :) Sound equipment, microphones, audio inputs, drum set, guitar amps, DI, drum kit, bass rig, and keyboards will be available for you, or feel free to bring your own instruments. We are excited to have Dr. Nicholle Andrews for a Body Mapping workshop on Thursday, March 28th, from 1:00-2:00 pm in the Performing Arts Center (PAC) 113. Dr. Andrews is is Director of Choral Studies at the University of Redlands in Southern California, and Artist Director of Phoenix Chamber Choir in Vancouver British Columbia. She is a licensed body mapping educator whose areas of research include performance anxiety, pitch perception, and body awareness while performing and conducting. This is part of a spectacular semester of masterclasses, workshops, and upcoming concerts here at Sacramento City College! ☺️🎼🙆‍♀️🙆‍♂️
