Library Permanently Closed
It is with a heavy heart that we must report that Sacramento’s first Little Free Library has been decommissioned. Established back in August 2011, this community resource has served as a free exchange of books, information & food. Supplied and supported solely by the generosity of local families. Thank you to all who have donated over the years as your gifts have contributed to others in need. It has been a pleasure to provide this opportunity for the community to come together. Allowing those who may have otherwise gone without, have a story at bedtime, food for an empty stomach or the experience of knowing that some stranger out there was willing to share without recognition. Thank you and we hope that you continue to support the many other Little Free Libraries throughout the Sacramento area.
We know that the question as to “Why” will be asked. Graffiti can be painted over, damage to the library repaired and shredded books in the street replaced. However, as the donated contents of the library have recently become projectiles used in attempts to damage homes and vehicles, it was determined that it was time to remove this temptation. While it is sad that the actions of the few have precipitated this, take comfort in knowing that, literally, thousands in the community have benefited from this resource over the last decade.
