Closing

Dear Aldar Academy Families,
The continued severe storms impacting the greater Sacramento area have left our school without electricity and we do not expect that power will be restored by the time school would start this morning. We have been in close contact with SMUD and the Office of Emergency Services and do not have a timeline for the full restoration of power.
Additionally, flooding and downed trees have compromised a number of our routes, thus impacting our ability to provide safe transportation to all students. These facts, combined with the expected and continued strong winds and heavy rain, make it necessary to close our physical campus for the day - for the safety of our students and staff.
We will be offering a virtual learning session for those able to access it. Please see your child’s Google Classroom for details. If possible teachers will post instructions for their classes on Google Classroom. Similarly, if possible, students should complete the assignments posted on Google Classroom to the best of their ability.

As we did last week, please communicate to students using the same communicative methods and persons.

Be safe and be well.

Aldar Academy Community,

We want to communicate that we are closely monitoring the forecasted storms. We are working with the Office of Emergency Services (OES) and will follow their guidance in the coming days. OES anticipates that high winds will again present most of the challenges overnight including fallen trees and compromised power lines.

We will monitor the accessibility of our school throughout this evening and into tomorrow. We will also notify the school community by 6AM if it will be necessary to remain closed and/or adjust the school day.

We appreciate your anticipated cooperation and support as we continue to work at keeping our students and staff safe.

Dear Students, Parents and Families,

Aldar Academy is formally announcing that we will be starting the 2020-21 school year with the Full Distance Learning model in consultation and collaboration with the Sacramento County Office of Education, other area school districts, Sacramento County Health Director, Dr. Peter Beilenson and Public Health Officer, Dr. Olivia Kasirye.

The information we wish to emphasize is that with Full Distance Learning, our school administrators and staff will continue to reach out to parents/caregivers to provide more Back-to-School details. Parents/Caregivers are asked to check their emails regularly and our school website for updates, past information and for additional services and resources.

CDPH COVID-19 and Reopening In-Person Learning Framework for K-12 Schools in California, 2020-2021 School Year

05/31/2020

Aldar Academy families and friends,

I am grateful for the collaboration of our Aldar Academy community these past few weeks. As we venture into our final weeks of the 2019-2020 school year, we all acknowledge that there have been bumps and bruises along our way into Distance Learning. Nothing can replace the human interaction and connections made when students have personal interactions with teachers and students. I would encourage you to reach out for support on tech issues, academic issues, and for any social-emotional concerns you have.

While we are all carrying a heavy burden during this pandemic we look forward to what we can do to make things better.

We are spending hours and hours looking at what the Fall of 2020 could look like. The future is unpredictable. As of today, I cannot assure you that 2020-2021 will return in August with students and teachers back in classrooms. Learning will continue in the Fall, but how we can successfully approach that is still in question. We will learn more in the next few weeks as states like Georgia, Texas, and others open early. If there are spikes in the virus in those states, other states may think twice before re-opening.

I feel more confident than ever before that we are learning as we go and are working to create a sustainable and integrity based program.

As more information becomes available, and plans are solidified for the coming school year, we will keep you posted.

Together we will work through this!

Aldar Academy COVID-19 Update March 25, 2020

No students will be allowed on campus due to district mandated school closures.

At this point, Aldar Academy has fully implemented remote learning in response to the direction of our local school districts. Staff are available to assist with setting up remote learning abilities for all students via teleconference.

We urge our families to plan for a potential extended period of closure similar to what we see from other States, Counties and Districts. The anticipated timeline for closure of the physical campus is through the remainder of the school year, although we remain open to the possibility that our students may be able to return sooner.

We need to work together to continue to engage students in learning. Teachers are currently providing students with assignments and activities to be completed at home and/or online during the closure. Teachers are sending students information about assignments and activities directly to the student's Aldar Academy assigned email account. Students may view their email by signing in at Gmail.com with their [email protected]. If your student cannot not access their school assigned Gmail account, please send an email or call your student's teacher, counselor, or principal for assistance. The goal of the student work assigned during the closure is designed to replace the normal classroom experience to the extent we are able to, but also to ensure students continue to progress in their learning. Teachers may assign a grade for work assigned over the closure. Teachers will take into account equity and access issues when grading student work. If you have questions or concerns about your student's ability to complete any assignments, please email the teacher or your student's counselor for assistance. Efforts are being made to ensure students are provided with the resources they need to successfully complete the assignments. If you need a computer to access the online materials, please immediately reach out to your child's teacher and/or school Principal. The current platforms for classroom instruction are through Google Classroom, SeeSaw, Google Hangouts, Zoom, and hard copy paper materials (links can be found on our school website www.aldaracademy.org if you need to sign up or access any of these sites).

If your child has an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) or a section 504 Accommodation Plan, we will be in contact with you regarding service provision and IEP/Section 504 Meetings. Please email your child's teacher with specific questions. If additional assistance is needed, please contact the the main Office at (916) 485-9685 or send an email to [email protected].

Our Food Services Department is working on a plan to ensure that those students who need meals have opportunities for pick up. Please continue to reference our website for updated information on how we are providing this service to help support our families.

We, like other districts/schools, have been monitoring the Public Health Department's advice with respect to school closures and how to ensure that our school operates with a safe learning environment for all students. We will continue to monitor the Sacramento County Public Health (SCPH) information and follow SCPH's recommended actions for schools during the current Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak.

In an effort to ease any anxieties, we would like to clarify that due to the nature of our students with many of them having individual medical needs, our school is hyper-vigilant about contamination issues. To limit unnecessary exposure to unhealthy pathogens, we will continue with rigorous cleaning of the campus and student used materials.

Please refer to SCPH for the latest information on the status of COVID-19 in our community.

Aldar Academy will do its best to continue to be transparent in communicating with you and our staff about issues pertaining to the COVID-19 virus.

COVID-19
MARCH 20, 2020 UPDATE

We are updating our families on the anticipated length of distance learning to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 as well as to provide an update on our current efforts to meet the academic and social and emotional needs of our students.

Our school continues to carefully monitor the recommendations and directives issued by Governor Gavin Newsom, Sacramento County, the city of Sacramento, and public health agencies at the federal, state, and local levels. Yesterday (3-19-20), Sacramento County issued a Public Health Order directing all residents to stay at home, unless they are providing or accessing essential services, such as shopping for groceries or picking up meals. The Order is currently set to be in place until April 7, 2020, or until it is extended, rescinded, superseded, or amended in writing by the County Health Officer. For more information about the Order, please see the County’s Frequently Asked Questions web page.

As a result of this order, Aldar Academy will continue with distance/remote learning until the April 7, 2020. The COVID-19 public health emergency remains a fluid situation. Facts and circumstances change quickly, and regular reassessments are essential as the public health considerations evolve.

We will continue to communicate with our families, and will post updates to our website as circumstances dictate. We thank our entire community for their understanding and cooperation during this public health crisis, and for doing their part to keep our students and school community healthy.
