This session focuses on understanding trauma’s impact on behavior and learning in order to support the development
of marginalized youth. Young people with unhealed childhood trauma can be preserved as disruptive, defiant, noncompliant, and/or delinquent. Learn how this misinformed interpretation and traditionally punitive or exclusionary approach to discipline subsequently re-traumatizes the child and contributes to intergenerational trauma.

The session will provide lessons on how to recognize the lesser-known forms of abuse and understand the clinical
pathways for healing. Topics include: differentiating between “relationship toxicity” or conflict and IPV or patterns of
coercion; understanding how trauma and shame impact victims; & key treatment considerations when working with

Save the date for our Counselor Education Symposium 2026 in spring on Friday February 6, 2026. What is the symposium? It's a day of professional development for our community, graduate students, Counselors-in-Training (CIT), interns and soon-to-be graduates, alumni, sites, and site supervisors.
Curious about the LPCC, LMFT? Come to our licensing/credentialing sessions to learn everything and get your questions answered! We are planning the professional workshops and are excited to share these opportunities with our cohorts and community.
This day includes site fair, tailored to our second years but all are invited to come meet our sites for networking.
Our alumni network will be there and Chi Sigma Sigma will host induction that weekend.
