Throwback Thursday: Back in 2016, Harvard Health Publishing explored the connection between exercise and teen depression. Sadly, teen depression is even more widespread today than it was 10 years ago, making the article’s message just as relevant now.

Research highlighted that exercise can help improve symptoms of depression in adolescents, especially when combined with other forms of support and treatment. Movement is not a cure-all, but physical activity can positively impact mood, stress levels, confidence, and overall mental wellness. An important reminder that exercise supports far more than physical health alone.

Heart Zones was honored to have our VP of Sales, Joe Gooden, speak with students in Dr. Balea Schumacher’s FitTech course at the UNG - University of North Georgia about the rapidly evolving world of wearable fitness technology.

From the early days of heart rate sensors to today’s smartwatches, fitness trackers, and emerging technologies, the conversation focused on how wearable tech is transforming fitness, health, and physical education. We also shared how the Heart Zones Solution uses real-time heart rate data to increase engagement, personalize instruction, and support healthier outcomes for students and participants.

It was inspiring to connect with the next generation of fitness and physical education professionals and see their excitement for the future of fitness technology and heart rate education.

California’s revised budget could create a major opportunity for PE and Adapted PE programs across the state. With billions in new discretionary and special education funding now available, schools may have more flexibility than ever to invest in student wellness, inclusion, and data-driven physical education.

Our latest blog breaks down how PE teachers and principals can work together to potentially fund the Heart Zones Solution through California’s updated budget proposal. This Memorial Day, we want to share an important message from Joel Edwards, CEO of First Responder Wellness and nephew of our CEO, Sal Edwards.

Joel speaks to the heartbreaking reality that first responders face significantly higher rates of cardiac disease and heart attacks compared to the general population. These statistics are staggering and serve as a powerful reminder that heart health, exercise, proper nutrition, and an overall healthy lifestyle are not optional. They are essential.

To the men and women serving in our military, firefighters, law enforcement officers, paramedics, and all first responders who put themselves on the line every single day, thank you. Your sacrifice, courage, and dedication do not go unnoticed.

Today, we honor those we have lost and express our deepest gratitude to those who continue to serve.

It gives teachers, coaches, and participants instant feedback that helps make movement more motivating, interactive, and meaningful.

Farmington School District made PE a top priority and transformed student engagement with the Heart Zones Solution.

Within the first two weeks of using heart rate sensors in class, staff identified 3 students with abnormal readings who later discovered undiagnosed cardio-pulmonary conditions. While Heart Zones is not a medical device company, real-time heart rate data can help educators better understand what is happening inside a student’s body during activity.

The Heart Zones Solution also frees up PE teachers to spend more time interacting with students instead of subjectively grading effort. Students become more accountable, motivated, and engaged through real-time feedback and objective data.

Last week we were talking all about the importance of Field Days, and Rising Hill Elementary just delivered a fantastic example of what makes them so impactful. From movement and teamwork to school spirit and healthy cardiovascular activity, events like these create lasting memories while keeping kids active and engaged.

Huge shoutout to the staff, families, Clay County Sheriffs Department, and Master Shin's Tae Kwon Do for helping make the day such a success. This is what is all about.

For years, South Brunswick High School in the South Brunswick School District uses the Heart Zones Solution to help students better understand their effort and engagement in PE.

PE teacher Ray Ostrowski shares how much students enjoy seeing their live heart rate data displayed on the Big Board, giving them instant feedback and helping them better judge where they are during class. He explains how the Heart Zones Solution continues to be an incredibly helpful tool, creating more awareness, motivation, and accountability through real-time data.

See why more schools are using objective data to bring PE to life.
