Dear Sac City Unified Families,

As promised, we are providing you with the most timely update possible regarding the start date for our upcoming academic year.

This afternoon, the State Board of Education (SBE) approved our request for a waiver of the penalty for not providing the minimum number of instructional days and minutes during the 2021-2022 school year.

Approval of the waiver means we will be adding eight (8) instructional days to the 2024-2025 calendar and moving the first day of school to Monday, August 19, 2024.

Additionally, 8 days will be added to the beginning of the 2025-2026 school calendar.

This learning recovery plan, which was created in collaboration with Sacramento City Teachers Association (SCTA), represents a unique opportunity for us to offer more classroom time to meet the academic and social and emotional learning needs of students. It also enables the district to reinvest approximately $39 million in funding to support students and teachers that would have otherwise been returned to the state.
