🌟 The Distinguished Toastmaster Journey 🌟

Achieving your DTM is more than a milestone—it’s a transformation. When you began, you sought the thrill of your own breakthroughs: the applause after a speech, the pride of growth, the rush of overcoming fear. But now, as a Distinguished Toastmaster, your purpose shifts.

The true measure of a DTM isn’t the certificate on the wall—it’s the euphoria you create for others. Like a seasoned leader in a great company, you no longer chase personal validation. Instead, you generate opportunities for others to shine. You mentor. You guide. You spark the confidence in someone else that once had to be sparked in you.

A DTM is a builder of people, a cultivator of communities, and a steward of the Toastmasters legacy. You’ve moved from receiving inspiration to being the source of it. That’s what it means to wear the letters DTM with pride.

I was deeply saddened to learn yesterday of the passing of our dear friend and fellow River City Toastmaster, Amrik Chima.

I remember when Amrik first joined our club during the pandemic. Working from home at the time, he took full advantage of the opportunity to attend our online meetings. Since then, his dedication and leadership shone brightly—he went on to serve as our club’s President and, most recently, as the Club Growth Director for District 39, one of the district’s top three leadership roles.

What I will remember most about Amrik are his warm smiles and infectious laughter, his quiet patience, tireless work ethic, and unwavering positivity. I never once heard him speak ill of anyone. He was always just a phone call, text, or Zoom away—consistently reaching out, whether for Toastmasters matters or simply to check in as a friend.

The last time I saw Amrik in person was in August of last year at the Sacramento International Airport. We happened to bump into each other—he was on his way to the Toastmasters International Convention, and Ruby and I were heading to the Pacific Northwest. That brief encounter now holds even more meaning.

Amrik had a quiet yet powerful presence in meetings—always taking notes, always ready to share resources to help the discussion move forward, without being asked. That was simply who he was: someone you could count on, often before you even realized you needed the support.

His passing is a profound loss to our club and to District 39. He will be greatly missed.

May he rest in peace. Our heartfelt condolences go out to his family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know him.

In the inaugural year of Toastmasters International, a significant milestone was achieved on October 22, 1924.

On this date, Ralph C. Smedley convened approximately two dozen men in the basement of the Santa Ana YMCA in California to establish the first official Toastmasters club.

This gathering marked the formal inception of the organization, laying the foundation for its future growth and development
