Happy from the brothers of SigEp at Sac State! πŸ–€β€οΈπŸ’š

Today we honor the freedom and liberation of enslaved African Americans and the ongoing fight for racial equality β€” and we especially celebrate our African American brothers.

There's an image of "frat" burned into culture from movies and TV. But SigEp is different.

We're not duplicates of each other. We're a group of individuals who celebrate what makes each of us unique β€” striving for more, not more of the same.

You don't have to have it all figured out to join SigEp.

You just have to want more for yourself.

SigEp at Sac State is built around the Balanced Man Program β€” an ongoing development experience organized around four pillars: knowing yourself, seeking balance, building relationships, and pursuing excellence.

No pledging. No hazing. No jumping through hoops to prove you belong. Just brothers who are serious about becoming the best version of themselves β€” and a structured program to help you get there. All while having lots of fun.

If you're starting at Sac State this fall and you want a fraternity that actually invests in who you're becoming, come see what we're about.

Most students assume scholarships are only for "perfect" people.

Perfect grades. Perfect rΓ©sumΓ©s. Perfect confidence.

That's not what the Patrick Astafan Balanced Man Scholarship is about.

This scholarship recognizes male students with a GPA of at least 3.0 at Sacramento State who are striving to grow β€” academically, personally, and as leaders. Students who care about building a strong future, developing character, creating balance, and raising their standards.

The one-page application takes 15 minutes or less. No requirement to join the fraternity. No complicated process. Just an opportunity worth taking seriously.

Scholarship interviews start in July β€” so if you're attending Sac State this fall, this is your sign to apply.

Sometimes one small opportunity changes the direction of an entire college experience!

Interviews start in July. Application deadline:
September 6

Many men have passed through the SigEp chapter at Sac State. Today we remember one of those brothers.

As an undergraduate, Joaquin was a hands-on member of the chapter, contributing to successful fundraising and social events. He continued supporting the chapter even after transferring to the University of San Francisco to complete his bachelor's degree. Joaquin joined the Alumni & Volunteer Corporation in Fall 2014, where he successfully planned the chapter's 50th Annual Sweethearts Formal. He then served as Director of Strategic Planning, developing a long-term vision for the chapter and strengthening its relationship with the undergraduate membership. Later, as President of the Alumni & Volunteer Corporation, he rallied local alumni and board members around a partial renovation of the chapter facility. At the 2018 Carlson Leadership Academy, Joaquin was recognized as the Outstanding New Volunteer for District 25.

Joaquin embodied what it means to be a SigEp β€” not just during his years as an undergraduate, but throughout his life. He gave his time, his energy, and his vision to a chapter and a brotherhood that were better for having known him. We are grateful for the example he set and the mark he left on this chapter. He will be missed, and he will be remembered.

πŸŽ–οΈ May is Military Appreciation Month, and we're proud to reflect on the deep ties Sigma Phi Epsilon at Sacramento State has always had with those who serve. From active ROTC members in our chapter to brothers who joined after their time in uniform, the military community has long been part of what makes our brotherhood strong.

A perfect example is brother Nick "Tennessee" Jones β€” pictured here at last year's Casino Night on his birthday πŸŽ°πŸŽ‚ β€” who was an undergrad with us not long ago and has since stepped right back into the chapter as a mentor for programming and a valued member of our Alumni & Volunteer Corporation. This year he took the lead organizing Casino Night, and it showed β€” the event was a tremendous success.

Thank you, Tennessee, and thank you to every brother who has served or will serve. We are proud to stand celebrate all of you. 🀝
