Jon Talbot cannot be left alone for more than five (5) minutes without tearing all of the wires out of a studio. He began rewiring Studio B the moment the 2025/2026 school year ended! We can all sleep well on our summer vacations knowing that JT is keeping the American River College studios in perfect running order.

ARC's 2nd level 344 recording class, shown tracking the band "Last Day Massacre" for their final project. After basic tracking was done, we needed the studio for another session so vocal overdubs continued in studio C. It’s nice having options. The afternoon session with 350 is taking up both studio A and B.

New Live Console Day: Leveling Up with the Avantis 🎚️✨
This week, our Live Sound Reinforcement (LSR) students are mastering ARC's Allen & Heath Avantis interface. We’re leaning into those dual touchscreens to build the muscle memory needed for the high-stakes reality of live gigs.
- Navigating 64 channels at 96kHz with zero hesitation.
- Speed over Menus: Mastering the dual touchscreens for instant access.
- Deep Processing: Getting hands-on with industry-standard DEEP compressors and Dyn8 dynamic EQ—built directly into the channels for zero-latency control.
- Tour-Ready Workflow: Training on the same hardware and RackExtra FX, currently dominating festival risers worldwide.
Students are building the skills today to handle the tour bus tomorrow. ⚡🎧

The Holy Grail of Audio: ARC Students Visit Skywalker Ranch 🏛️🎚️📸
Recently, our ARC Recording students traded the classroom for the legendary hills of Nicasio to get a front-row seat to the absolute pinnacle of audio engineering.
We tried to smuggle some of that world-class reverb back in our pockets, but turns out security is as tight as their mix sessions. 🏃💨 (We did make a mental note about that superstition dollar bill on the console, though! — see photo 4 💸)
In all seriousness, seeing the industry's highest standards in person is vital for our students’ growth. During our tour of the Ranch, our crew got an invaluable look into:
Technical Deep Dives: Getting granular details on intricate micing setups, like on the Gretsch kit (photo 2).
The Sound Stage Experience: Experiencing the unmatched acoustic architecture of the iconic Scoring Stage, seeing our own ARC brass section in action (photo 3).
World-Class Workflows: Observing complex mixing sessions at massive, top-tier consoles (photo 4).
Experiences like these do more than just teach technical skills—they ignite the ambition required to lead the next generation of audio professionals. We left feeling inspired, slightly starstruck, and ready to get back behind the faders.
May the (phantom) power be with you. 🎙️✨

Analog soul in the ARC studios. 🎚️
We’re leveling up the signal chain here at American River College Studios. Even when we're tracking into Pro Tools, we’ve started routing sessions through our new Mara Machines JH24 transformer-based output cards.
The result? Incredible harmonic depth. Even without the tape running, these cards add a weight and character that’s hard to replicate—especially when we go “all buttons in.” But when we actually roll tape? Total chef's kiss. 🤌✨
