Reporting to the Swim Lesson Manager, the Swim Instructor is responsible for providing consistent quality swim instruction in private and group swim lessons.
Responsibilities:
Provide quality swim instruction to children, teenagers, and adults in private and/or group swim lessons.
Establish clear objectives and goals based on class description and timeframe; modify instruction based on group or individual ability; maintain a supportive and positive disposition for client; be willing to apply new swim methods and suggestions.
Adhere to swim and pool safety standards. Approach instruction from a safety standpoint; is aware of pool and/or lifeguard rules and duties. Maintains up-to-date knowledge of current Water Safety Instruction and Center rules and standards.
Establish consistency of availability in the swim schedule. Provide Swim Instruction Sales Coordinator with available teaching times and days subject to the needs of the Swim Instruction Department. Is punctual and prepared for all swim lessons. Is flexible regarding last-minute substitution in either private or group swim lessons.
Works with Swim Instruction Sales Coordinator to accommodate clients’ scheduling needs; works with Swim instruction Sales Coordinator to adjust work schedule around pool/class schedules or during busy/slow months.
Effectively communicates with students, parents, Swim Instruction Sales Coordinator and the Aquatic Programs Manager. Vocalize swim lesson objectives and goals to both children, teenage and adult clients; speak constructively to parent about a child’s swim progress. Ensure that the H&F Desk and Swim Instruction Sales Coordinator is made aware of any changes in schedule in a timely manner. Ensure that the Aquatic Programs Manager and the Swim Instruction Sales Coordinator are made aware of any issues with clients.
Attend mandatory staff swim instructor meetings. May be asked to explain swim techniques at meetings.
May be asked to substitute for other swim instructors due to illness or schedule changes.
Attend continuing education classes to keep certifications current. Attend classes or use facilities to increase swim instruction abilities and personal health.

Perform other duties as assigned by Aquatic Programs Manager.
Shifts are under 18 hours per week-

Is courteous to OMJCC members, staff, and the public.
Follow pool rules and directions from Lifeguard.
Refer any issues or complaints to Manager, Aquatic Programs or Lifeguard Supervisor.
Reflect pool schedule and adhere to rules when teaching a class in the pool.
Put away any class equipment and toys used.
