I am proud of the work that our district has done hand-in-hand with our community to better educate the public about why these name changes are needed. It is my hope that this action is found to be restorative, and the new identities of Miwok, Suy:u, and Umoja schools will be universally embraced by our students and families when they return this fall.

Sacramento City Unified free summer meals program returns: What to know 06/23/2023

I encourage everyone to help us spread the word to the families in our community that there are free and nutritious meals available for those who are 18-and-under at many of our school sites this summer. Thank you to our SCUSD Central Kitchen team for making an incredible impact in the lives of children and teens this summer!

I had the honor of attending all 15 of our graduation ceremonies this month. I would like to acknowledge that this year’s graduating class had one of the most unique experiences in our history as the Covid pandemic started near the end of their freshman year in 2020. I wish all of them happiness and success in their next journey.

We are deeply, deeply proud in Sac City of the rich diversity in our District and that diversity will always extend beyond just race, ethnicity, religion, to include our LGBTQ+ students and staff. Happy Pride Month!

At Sac City Unified we believe that facilities planning is neighborhood planning, and to lift our neighborhoods, we must also elevate the conditions of our school facilities like Kemble/Chavez in a way that focuses on safety, flexibility and creating innovative spaces that promote social emotional learning. The construction of the new Kemble/Chavez demonstrates Sac City’s unwavering commitment to equity and improving the outcomes of students who have been historically underserved.

I am so proud to see the impact that these fairs have brought each month this school year. There is a true feeling of unity, vibrancy and community every time we host one of these events. Families are connected with incredible community partners, our schools are reimagined in ways that will inspire students to attend each day, the talent of our students are on full display, and our District has the opportunity to share resources and career opportunities.
