Beyond thrilled today! Modern Greek language is now offered at Sacramento State University through the College of Continuing Education (CCE).

Modern Greek Language Offered at Sacramento State

The National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA), together with the College of Continuing Education at Sacramento State University (CCE), are pleased to offer introductory modern Greek language. This fall, Greek 6A, will be offered online through CCE and is open to community members, university students, and high school students for university credit. Greek 6A is part of a year-long introductory Greek course that fulfills language requirements for the California State University campuses.

The 12-week online course will be taught by NKUA faculty beginning on September 16th. The course will be live with the instructors and classes will be held online from M-Th, 8:00 – 8:50 am. For friends in Sacramento, please consider attending Thursday's reception to celebrate Hellenic Studies and the Tsakopoulos Hellenic Collection's presence at Sacramento State.

Directions and Parking:
Complementary self-parking is provided in Lot 6
As you enter Sacramento State from State University Drive, turn onto White Popular Way from State University Drive. From White Poplar Way, turn right onto Callery Pear Way.

Parking Lot 6 is in front of Parking Structure 3. Turn left to enter Lot 6. Please park in any of the spaces in Lot 6. No code is needed.
Directions for Parking Lot 6 are also available on iPhone or Google Maps by entering “Parking Lot 6, Sacramento State University”
It is a short walk to Library/Special Collections.

Once you have parked, please walk to the side with Bike Parking. You will then walk on the paved path towards the library. Tahoe Hall will be on your left hand side and the Academic Information Resource Center will be on the right. he building straight-ahead is the Library where the event is being held.

Excited to be hosting producer, Kostas Spyropoulos, to screen his film "Arcadia 1900, Champagne d'Orient" at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church this coming Sunday at 6:30 pm.
Please consider attending the screening! It should be a wonderful evening.
Here is information about the director:
Kostas Spyropoulos, the filmmaker of the documentary Arcadia 1900, Champagne d’Orient is a veteran journalist, film producer and author of Arcadian origin from Nestani-Tsipiana. He has been director in all the nationwide TV stations in Greece (MEGA, ANTENNA, SKAI, ERT,GBC, TEMPO) and he was the founder of Euronews Balkans Network. He studied Economics in Athens University and he was trained in TV production in the Frank Maggid Institute in Cedar Rabbit, Iowa. He speaks English and French.

Τhe plot of the film is the story of one family from Tegea. In a book by Kostas Spyropoulos and published in Greece - titled The Pioneers of Moschofilero - are written the short stories of other 13 families, acting in Arcadia for over 50 years period, with the same activities and similar international distinctions. The book will be available after the screenings and Kostas will be happy to sign copies to each reader.

The Hellenic Studies Program at Sacramento State University is pleased to begin its 2023 cultural events with a wonderful musical performance by the Greek Chamber Music Project. They will be presenting Greek songs from Asia Minor to commemorate the Asia Minor Catastrophe. This performance was part of the series of events commemorating the Asia Minor Catastrophe. Please join us at the Hinde Auditorium at Sacramento State University, on Friday, February 10th at 7:00 pm. The event is free and open to the public.
