This isn’t protection.
It’s monitoring.

Coercive control doesn’t always start with violence. Sometimes it starts with “send me your location,” “why didn’t you answer,” or “let me see your phone.”

And too many women are taught to ignore that feeling in their gut because they don’t want to seem paranoid, dramatic, or “too sensitive.”

No.

You’re not paranoid.
You’re not overreacting.
You’re recognizing control.

At Mean Girl Self Defense, we teach women how to spot the signs early, protect their privacy, set boundaries, build skills, and create a way out.

Awareness is step one.
Training is what sets you free.

This is the only armbar option we show in level 1. Why? Because armbars are very technical and can be overwhelming to learn in a pressured scenario. They take hundreds (sometimes thousands) of reps to get down good enough to do against someone bigger stronger and more violent than you. Our number one goal in self defense is escape. Don’t hang around. Get out.

If your training looks clean… it’s probably not real.

Real self defense is messy.

You’ll be off balance.
Out of breath.
Adrenaline dumping.

Nothing will feel perfect.

Because violence isn’t controlled.
It’s chaotic. It’s aggressive. It’s fast.

So if your training is always calm, quiet, and perfectly executed…

you’re not being prepared for reality.

You’re being kept comfortable.

And comfort doesn’t protect you.

Pressure does.
Reps do.
Realistic training does.

That’s what actually builds confidence.

If you’re ready to train for real—message us or comment READY.

If your goal is to “win the fight”… you’re being taught wrong.

Self defense isn’t about proving anything.
It’s not about dominating someone.
It’s not about “winning.”

It’s about getting out.

Creating space.
Breaking contact.
Getting somewhere safe.

Because the longer you stay engaged—
the more risk you take on.

Good training teaches you how to escape early and decisively.

Not hang around trying to finish something.

You don’t win self defense by beating someone.
You win by getting home safe.

Follow for Part 5—the part most programs completely avoid.

Dummy sweep 1. This technique is for when someone is standing over you. There’s several variations but we tend to start with this one. Make sure if you practice it that the “bad guy” knows how to break fall. ;)
