As we close out National Nurses Week, let’s not forget the major milestones it took to get us to where we are with today’s celebrations! To know history is to know self — here is some of the history behind how National Nurses Week came to be! 🧑‍⚕️📖

Let this week (and every week we work on the floor) be an example of how important advocating for the future of the nursing profession is. Your work is valued and appreciated, and you have the power to change the nursing workforce! ✊🏥😷

February is Black History Month! 📖🤎📣

Black History Month began as “Negro History Week,” created in 1926 by historian Carter G. Woodson to highlight the achievements and contributions of Black Americans that were often ignored in mainstream history. He chose February to coincide with the birthdays of Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass. In 1976, during the U.S. Bicentennial, Negro History Week was officially expanded into Black History Month and has since been observed nationwide each February.

Swipe to learn more about some of the notable contributions that Black nurses, both historical and fictional, have made to the nursing community! Their courage, resilience, and dedication to equitable care continue to shape and inspire our profession.
