Summer Learning Loss: Why Summer Learning Matters
By Rennu Dhillon, Founder of Genius Kids
As summer approaches, many parents look forward to vacations, family time, and a break from school routines. While children certainly deserve time to relax and have fun, it is important to remember that learning should not take a three-month vacation.
Research has shown that many children experience summer learning loss, often referred to as the "summer slide." During the summer months, students can lose some of the academic skills they worked so hard to develop during the school year, particularly in reading, writing, and math.
The good news is that preventing summer learning loss does not require hours of worksheets or tutoring. Learning can be woven naturally into everyday activities:
đ Read together daily, even for just 15â20 minutes.
đŹ Explore science through simple experiments and nature walks.
đ¨ Encourage creativity through art, storytelling, and imaginative play.
đ¤ Practice public speaking by having children share stories, opinions, or presentations with family members.
𧊠Play educational games that build critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
â˝ Balance academics with outdoor play, sports, and social activities.
Summer is an opportunity to help children discover that learning can be exciting, hands-on, and fun. The goal is not to recreate school at home but to keep young minds active, curious, and engaged.
When children continue learning throughout the summer, they return to school more confident, better prepared, and ready to build on the success of the previous year.
A little learning each day can make a big difference by the end of summer.
Another great solution is to enroll your child in the Genius Kids Fun Summer Camps, filled with exciting weekly themes, special guest presenters, hands-on activities, STEM exploration, outdoor fun, and plenty of public speaking opportunities designed to build confidence and leadership skills.
At Genius Kids, we believe that learning should be fun, engaging, and meaningfulâeven during the summer months.
Keep learning. Keep growing. Keep shining.

Building leaders doesnât begin in adulthoodâit starts when children are given the confidence to speak. At Genius Kids, we donât raise followers⌠we nurture leaders.
Through daily public speaking, children learn to express ideas, make decisions, and stand with confidence.
Because leadership begins with communicationâand every voice matters.
When children speak, they donât just share⌠they lead.
Think ⢠Lead ⢠Communicate

Every child has something to say⌠sometimes we just need to give them the space and confidence to say it. At Genius Kids, we donât silence voicesâwe nurture them.
From the very beginning, children learn to express their thoughts with clarity, confidence, and purpose. Because when a child finds their voice, they begin to believe in themselves.
And that belief becomes the foundation for leadership.
Think ⢠Lead ⢠Communicate

Confidence doesnât start in adulthood⌠it begins when a child feels heard.
At Genius Kids, even our youngest learners stand up and speak.
Every time a child uses their voice, they build belief in themselves.
Public speaking becomes a habitânot a moment.
Thatâs how confidence, leadership, and clarity are formed early.
Think. Lead. Communicate. â The Genius Kids Difference.
