Are you getting the most out of your calendar?

When you make a commitment, make sure you make time to give that commitment the focus and attention it deserves!

In case of emergency, reference this post.

We all have our moments of feeling overwhelmed. Consider this your first aid kit for when you are feeling a bit overloaded at work.

Have a lot of things on your mind? Write them all down! Naming the things that are "bothering" you take away some of their power over you.

How do you decide what to do next during the course of your work day?

Many people I have worked with use some variation of these three questions:

1️⃣What deadline is approaching fastest (including meetings and appointments)?

2️⃣What does the person who just walked in to my office need me to do?

3️⃣What is the email I'm reading asking me for?

Instead of reacting to work, be proactive about your success.

✅Make sure you're regularly scheduling "thinking" time to give you the chance to regroup and gather your thoughts before moving to the next task. This includes allowing time between meetings to process your notes.

✅Make sure you're clear on the priorities that have been set for you by your organization or department. The work you do each day should be aligned with the goals and priorities of your organization or department.

✅Make sure you are regularly reviewing all of the commitments you have made to yourself and others, especially before agreeing to take on a new commitment. If you are over committed, you will not be able to deliver the results you would like. Delegate tasks where you can. Re-negotiate commitments when you can't delegate.

✅ Identify (and prioritize) what needs your attention now and what needs to wait until later. If you decide to push something to a later date, make sure you schedule the time to do that. Don't be afraid to decide that something is no longer a priority.

How do you decide what to do each day?

Running a meeting is another one of those things we learn by watching others.

Unfortunately, that means many of us have learned how to run very inefficient meetings...that could have been an email. 🤦🏾‍♀️

In my latest video, I share tips to help you increase meeting efficiency both as a meeting facilitator AND as an attendee. I also share a FREE agenda template you can download and use right away.

Share with a colleague or two (or a student!) who is maybe facilitating a meeting for the first time. Link in bio.

I've heard this from so many people!

Imagine if we applied this thinking to other things in life.

Ever seen a toddler learning to walk? Their ability to focus on the task at hand takes an *incredible* amount of effort. Lots of falling happens, but they practice constantly in order to improve just 1% everyday. With guidance and support, they get it but it doesn't happen overnight. Even after they can walk, as they experience new things (stairs, walking backwards, running) their skill level has to increase yet again.

Imagine a toddler thinking "I'm just not a walker." They would stop trying to get better at it because they have concluded that they just can't do it.

As you are learning to become more organized, understand that you are on a journey. What you have used in the past might not be working to get you the results that you want today, but that doesn't mean you can't grow and learn.

I'd be honored to be able to help you as you navigate new experiences that require you to increase your organization skills. Be sure to check out my YouTube page weekly tips and tools you can practice and master. Link in bio.

I wasn't really that organized in high school or college.

I had a system of some sort to help me deal with most things, but I really didn't have that much going on so my system didn't need to be all that strong or flexible.

My experiences working in fast paced environments with constantly shifting priorities meant I needed to change how I was approaching my work. The old tools I used simply didn't work anymore.

Growth and change are connected. I hope to help people GROW by allowing them to CHANGE their relationship with their work. Developing stronger tools allow you to carry a workload heavier load. 💪🏾

What you've been doing hasn't been working. Let's build something new.

Some people think I'm a guru of productivity and organization. That I know all the answers. The truth is...

I under deliver. I miss deadlines. I don't always get everything perfect.

I never will.

When I do miss a deadline or under deliver on a project, it's usually for one of two reasons.

1️⃣ I neglected to stay on top of my weekly review and just missed it 🤦🏾‍♀️

2️⃣ I have too many other things to do and some stuff just has to get dropped 😔 It's not that I forgot, I just didn't have time to do it all.

Productivity and organization system development is such an individual journey. I struggled with a lot of this stuff on my own before finding things that worked for me. And I'm still constantly evolving and growing my systems.

As you progress in your career, you will find that the system(s) you used to use flawlessly is/are no longer effective for the work you have to do. But how do you figure out how to change it and what to do instead?

This is why I share tips, tools, and resources, all for FREE - to help make your journey a little bit easier.

I also don't want you to think everyone else has it together except you. 😉

When you have too much to do, it can easily lead to overwhelm and trigger anxiety.

First, take a few slow, deep breaths and then calmly work your way through these steps.

Try to stay calm so managing your emotions won't be an added thing to do!

What other tips work well for you?
