Delayed Post- Our 6th graders have officially promoted from elementary to middle school and, as always, made a grand entrance to the ceremony by traveling through a tunnel of preschool through 5th grade Vikings! We are proud of how much they've grown here at Harkness and excited for their new adventures in 7th grade and beyond.

Family Picnic Day never disappoints! Families joined their students on campus last Thursday for picnic lunch out on the field. Festivities included bubbles, sidewalk chalk, kites, and several basketball and football games. Community at Harkness is strong!

Our Vikings are both talented and confident. Look at these super stars!! They put on quite a show and left us all wanting more. Thanks to NorCal School of the Arts for your partnership and commitment to our students. We can't wait for next year's production!

This photo was taken on the first day of The Lion King rehearsals. Nor Cal School of the Arts and Harkness are partnering this spring to give our students an opportunity to be part of a full-production experience. Please mark your calendars to come out and watch evening performances on April 18th and 19th!

Math instruction at Harkness is rigorous and fun! The top picture was taken in Ms. Martinez's room where her students were playing War with a focus on place value and greater/less than. The bottom picture was taken in Ms. Nguyen’s room where her students were working in collaborative partners and teams to multiply two-digit numbers by breaking apart.

Ms. Martinez’s 2nd graders delivered ‘gratitudes’ on Friday. As a recipient of a few of their notes, I just have to share how much joy each one brought me. Based on what we know about gratitude, I’m confident it brought them joy to write their notes, too. Excited to begin our Gratitude Attitude school wide practice this week!

Our 6th graders are home from Sly Park, safe and sound thanks to our amazing teachers and staff. One student reported she saw snow and deer for the first time this week! Meaningful learning and memories were gained this week.

Inspired by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s speech, Mr. P’s students wrote about their dreams for our world and drew oil pastel portraits of MLK. If our students’ dreams were realized, our world would be a better place.

We brought our classes with the best attendance in November and December to the CSUS planetarium this week. So very proud of our attendance champions!
