Our CULTURE for achievement is to create a NATURE school so welcoming, so inviting that every CHILD who walks through our doors has an amazing experience. Our facility is an NATURE BASED and REGGIO INSPIRED program. We create, design, connect, investigate, and explore beautiful ENVIRONMENTS where we provoke each child's interests. As eco-educators we thrive on helping each child practice good citi

“There must be provision for the child to have contact with nature; to understand and appreciate the order, the harmony and the beauty in nature.” - Maria Montessori

Happy Friday from Nature 2!

This week, the “Little Timbers” became geologists and explored everything gems, crystals, fossils, and rocks. We read the story “Let’s Go Rock Collecting,” designed gemstone trails; explored the size, shape, and colors of unique crystals and rocks through magnifying lenses, and we even learned that volcanoes are capable of creating rocks!

A highlight of the week was our special visit from Hillary of the Center for Wildlife. She taught us about birds of prey and gave us the opportunity to meet three of the center’s bird of prey residents! We met Maple the American Kestrel, Rusty the Red-Shouldered Hawk, and Nyx the Saw-Whet Owl. Did you know saw-whet owls have such strong hearing abilities that they are able to hear a heartbeat?

We hope everyone has a fabulous weekend, and we hope to see families visit this Saturday, August 22nd for Orientation Day! Next week, we will be diving more into “Beaks and Talons!”

We wanted to share with our KGE Community that Ms. Addison who was our college Intern from Endicott College in Beverly- her LAST day was today! She did an outstanding job and her dedication and commitment was admired by all of us! We’re truly going to miss her and she was a tremendous support to our program.

Here’s a little about Addison:

🌲♥️ My name is Addison and I am going into my Junior year at Endicott College in Beverly, Massachusetts. I am majoring in Psychology and am passionate about working with children. I am from South Portland, Maine, and have always loved the outdoors and engaging in activities such as hiking and going to the beach. My passion for working with children and being outdoors made Kidz Go Eco a perfect fit for me! I am excited to spend the summer learning from the Eco Educators and learning about the mission of Kidz Go Eco!

🌲♥️ Addison’s comments and farewell….

There are not enough words to express how thankful I am for my summer at KGE! I truly enjoyed building relationships with the students and being part of such an amazing team. I am excited to continue my studies of psychology abroad in Athens, Greece next semester and am hopeful to return to KGE next summer!

“BEST WISHES ADDISON FROM ALL OF US AT KIDZ GO ECO!”

Happy Thursday from Nature 1! Our Wabanaki Festival Week was so exciting! We learned about how Wabanaki people carve their own tools before getting a chance to try it out using bars of soap. We heard about different types of houses they used to live in and tried out building our own Wigwams using clay and different things we found in the forest. We also read a wonderful book called “Kunu’s Basket” by Lee DeCora Francis about a young Penobscot boy who is learning about his family’s tradition of basket weaving and then we tried out weaving some baskets ourselves. An extra special thank you to the Center for Wildlife for coming back to us with an incredible Birds of Prey presentation! We hope everyone has a phenomenal weekend and we’ll see you on Monday!

“The senses, being explorers of the world, open the way to knowledge. Our apparatus for educating the senses offers the child a key to guide his explorations of the world…” - Montessori, M. (1988). The Absorbent Mind. Oxford: Clio Press. p. 167

In Nature 2, “Little Timbers” use magnifying glasses and tweezers to explore rocks and crystals of various shapes, sizes, and colors.
