As we prepare for the start of school, we want to make everyone aware of a City of S**o paving project that may impact travel times, particularly near Fairfield School and C.K. Burns School. Beginning Monday, August 24th, Beach Street will be milled and repaved from Middle Street to Old Orchard Road. During daytime construction, traffic will be reduced to alternating one-way travel with flaggers, and no parking will be permitted in the work zone. The project is expected to continue for approximately four to five weeks, through the end of September.
While Fairfield and C.K. Burns will be most directly affected, we are alerting all families and staff as school-year traffic resumes. Please allow extra travel time and consider alternate routes, particularly during morning arrival and afternoon dismissal. School buses traveling through the area may also experience occasional delays in morning pick-up or afternoon drop-off times. The City’s Public Works and paving contractor are aware of school arrival and dismissal times and will make every effort to keep traffic moving during these periods.
If the construction requires any changes to school drop-off or pick-up procedures, those details will be communicated directly to affected families. We will also share updates about significant delays or detours as they become available.
