In Motion School of Dance

In Motion School of Dance In Motion School of Dance was founded in July 2000 and is entering Season 26! Come Grow With Us! Our staff qualifications are varied.

Students at In Motion will benefit from classes that focus on technique and vocabulary with progress reports for our Beginner Levels that help to keep an open line of communication with staff and parent. Our staff cares about every student and will work with families to be sure each dancer is placed properly and reaching their full potential. We have instructors on staff that have grown up in our

dance school, have college training in the dance/performing arts field, and professional dance experience. With a focus on fundamentals... we provide a fun and warm atmosphere for children and teens looking to learn the art of dance.

Want to know what to expect for Fall Session?

Our Level 2 & the Intro to Dance classes will be rotating through a series of movements to build endurance and strength. We will couple that with a bit of static stretches (listed below) but also active stretching too.

Dance is about learning the foundations ... the technique and terminology and practicing those things yes, but it is also about building the instrument that allows us to execute said technique and terminology. In order to jump and leap higher, to catch ourselves with safety, to create beautiful lines, to understand how we can achieve more... we need a body that grows with us. We can achieve more by working through certain skills (which we will continue through the recital season as well).

Level 2 classes are combo classes for Fall (6 weeks). We then split and work for 1 hour in each style/discipline with time now to branch out more and learn choreography. The same will be true for our Grade 7-12 program on Thursday nights.

IMSOD Families!

Let's get things started on the right foot. Dress code helps me see your dancers easier and make corrections. Dress code keeps us all on the same playing field too.

Avoiding clothing with small sparkles that fall off onto the dance floor is appreciated. I know they are sometimes super cute and adorable but practically speaking, simple is best!

Tights - you can buy them where you'd like but for recital- we definitely prefer that you all get Capezio so the kids will match. But also - a dance brand tight is going to bring you a longer life then department store tights.

Hand me down shoes, jazz shoes of a different color... acceptable to get the year started! I'm all about trying to help you and I know your kids are going to grow before recital. So if you have black jazz shoes... totally fine. If you have ballet shoes to start for Jazz - I'm ok with that too. I do HIGHLY recommend that your child have the correct shoes soon after Christmas if they stick around for recital season. You'll want to get the shoes broken in and have your dancer getting comfortable to moving and turning in them.

Boys - black taps, black jazz shoes.

I'll email this all this weekend too.

Let's stay away from bulky big oversized clothing. We want to be able to see our lines and alignment. Where are the shoulders and hips... how about hips and knees... learning how to achieve good technique comes through many modes of learning. The more I can see to make corrections and the more your dancers can see as well... the better!

Thanks and as always - you are always welcome to inquire about any specifics in regards to anything on the dress code.

We are getting so close to kick off!
