Join us for a Native Seed Collection Workshop and learn how you can collect, store, and start your own native plants from seed!

Collecting your own seeds is a great way to add native plants to your landscape. Seeds can come from plants you already have, a neighbor’s plants (with permission!), or native plants growing in your area.
During this hands-on workshop, participants will learn:
• How to identify native plants and seed heads
• How to determine when seeds are ready to harvest
• Proper techniques for harvesting seeds
• How to correctly store collected seeds
• Tips for starting your own native plants from seed

Please join us in celebrating Tracy Pickhinke, Early Achievers 4-H Club leader, on being inducted into the Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame at the Iowa State Fair!

For many years, Tracy has dedicated her time, energy, and heart to the 4-H program. Her involvement has come full circle—from her own experiences as a 4-H member to supporting her children through the program and now guiding the next generation of youth and volunteers.

Through her leadership, encouragement, and willingness to serve, Tracy has helped countless young people gain confidence, develop new skills, and create lasting memories. Her impact reaches far beyond her club and can be seen throughout our county and community.

This recognition is a reflection of the difference she has made in the lives of so many. Congratulations, Tracy, on this outstanding honor, and thank you for your continued dedication to 4-H and the youth we serve!

Check this out! Welcome Lauryn!

Join us in welcoming Lauryn Smidt to the Iowa Beef Center! Lauryn is joining the team as a regional extension beef specialist serving northwest Iowa.

She joined the team in July and has spent the first month visiting county fairs and meeting producers, coworkers and youth across the region.

Lauryn grew up in Pipestone, MN, where she gained some initial experience in the beef industry with her family's cattle operation. She attended North Dakota State University before pursuing a M.S. in ruminant nutrition at the University of Nebraska - Lincoln.
