๐ŸŒฟ Things I Notice as a Massage Therapist That You Might Not Notice Yourself

One of the things I love about massage therapy is that sometimes your body tells a story before you even realize what it's saying.

Over the years, I've learned to pay attention to the little things that can be easy to overlook.

For example:
๐Ÿ‘€ One shoulder sitting higher than the other
You may not notice it, but your body can develop patterns from posture, work, exercise, stress, or daily habits.
๐Ÿ’†โ€โ™€๏ธ Tension you're completely used to
Sometimes Iโ€™ll find tightness in an area and hear, โ€œOh, I didn't even realize that was tight.โ€
When something has been there long enough, it can start to feel normal.
๐Ÿฆท Jaw tension
Clenching and grinding can be connected to stress and can contribute to tension through the jaw, neck, and shoulders.
๐Ÿช‘ What your daily habits are doing to your body
Hours at a desk, driving, working on your feet, carrying kids, repetitive movements, or even the way you sleep can all contribute to patterns of tension.
๐ŸŒฟ How your body responds to stress
Sometimes the body holds onto stress through muscle guarding, shallow breathing, elevated shoulders, or an inability to fully relax.

And sometimes the area that hurts isn't necessarily the only area that needs attention.

That's why I don't believe massage should simply be about finding a sore spot and pushing on it.

It's about listening to the body, looking at the bigger picture, and understanding the patterns that may be contributing to how you're feeling.

Your body is constantly communicating with you.

Sometimes it just takes someone trained to help you notice what it's been saying. ๐Ÿ’›

When was the last time you really checked in with your body?

๐Ÿ’ช Your Workout Should Match Your Life

One thing I believe strongly as a coach:
Your training should fit your life. Your life shouldn't have to revolve around your training.

There will be seasons when you have more time, more energy, and more capacity to push yourself.

And there will be seasons when your body, schedule, stress levels, sleep, or life circumstances require you to adjust.

That doesn't mean you're failing.

It means you're listening.

As a coach, I look at more than just someone's fitness goals when creating a program. I consider:
โœ”๏ธ Your current fitness level
โœ”๏ธ Your schedule
โœ”๏ธ Your available equipment
โœ”๏ธ Your energy and recovery
โœ”๏ธ Your stress and sleep
โœ”๏ธ Injuries or limitations
โœ”๏ธ The season of life you're currently in

And sometimes, that season of life means pregnancy. โค๏ธ
As I'm navigating pregnancy myself, I'm experiencing firsthand what it means to adjust training to meet my body where it is.
I'm still moving and strength training, but my workouts don't necessarily look the same as they did before pregnancy.
I'm paying closer attention to energy, recovery, how movements feel, and what my body needs on any given day. Some days I may be able to do more, and other days the smartest choice is to modify, slow down, or simply give my body more recovery.
And that's okay.

Training isn't all or nothing.

Your program should have room for real life.

Pregnancy. Parenthood. Busy work seasons. Stressful weeks. Travel. Poor sleep. Recovery. Life changes.

The goal isn't to force your body through every season exactly the same way.

The goal is to continue supporting your health through each season in a way that makes sense for you.

That's how I coach.

Not perfection.

Not punishment.

Not one-size-fits-all programs.

Intentional training that meets you where you are and helps you build strength for where you're going. ๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿ’ช

**As always, pregnancy is an individual experience, and exercise should be appropriately modified with guidance from your healthcare provider

โœจ Why I Still Love Being a Massage Therapist

People often ask me if I still enjoy being a massage therapist after all these years.

The answer is simple:
Absolutely.

What I love most isn't just helping someone feel better for an hour. It's helping them reconnect with their body.
Every person who walks through my door has a story.
Some are carrying physical pain.
Some are carrying stress they didn't realize had settled into their shoulders, neck, or jaw.
Some simply haven't had an hour to themselves in months.
Massage therapy gives people permission to pause.
To breathe.
To let their nervous system slow down.
To remember what it feels like to not be in survival mode.

Over the years, my perspective has grown. Massage isn't just about relieving muscle tension. It's about supporting the whole person.
It's about helping someone move with less pain, sleep more soundly, recover from training, manage stress, or simply leave feeling lighter than when they arrived.

I also continue to learn because I believe there's always more to understand about the incredible way our bodies heal. Every class I take, every client I meet, and every experience continues to shape the therapist I am today.

Over fourteen years later, I still feel honored every time someone trusts me with their care.

Thank you for allowing me to do work that I truly love. ๐Ÿ’›๐ŸŒฟ

What Progress Actually Looks Like

Most people think progress looks like:
โฌ‡๏ธ The scale going down
๐Ÿ‹๏ธ Lifting heavier weights
๐Ÿ“ธ Dramatic before-and-after photos

Sometimes it does.

But often, progress looks much quieter.

It looks like:
โœจ More energy throughout the day
โœจ Better sleep
โœจ Less pain and stiffness
โœจ Feeling stronger carrying groceries
โœจ Choosing consistency over perfection
โœจ Recovering faster
โœจ Feeling more confident in your body
โœจ Managing stress more effectively

The problem is that these wins are easy to overlook because they don't always show up in a picture or on a scale.

But they're often the signs that real, lasting change is happening.

Don't forget to celebrate the progress that can't always be measured.

Sometimes the biggest transformations happen long before anyone can see them. ๐Ÿ’›

Signs Your Body Might Be Asking for a Massage

Your body is always communicating with you.
The question is... are you listening?
Massage isn't just for when you're in pain. Often, your body gives subtle signs that it's asking for recovery long before discomfort becomes chronic.

Here are a few signs it might be time to schedule a massage:
๐Ÿ’†โ€โ™€๏ธ You're constantly feeling tight or stiff.
๐Ÿ˜ด You're having trouble relaxing or sleeping well.
๐Ÿค• You notice frequent headaches or tension in your neck and shoulders.
๐Ÿ’ป You spend long hours sitting at a desk or working on your feet.
๐Ÿ‹๏ธ Your workouts leave you sore longer than usual.
๐Ÿ˜ฎโ€๐Ÿ’จ You feel mentally exhausted, overwhelmed, or like you can't "turn your brain off."
๐Ÿšถ Your body just feels... different. Less mobile. Less comfortable. Less like itself.

Massage therapy isn't simply about working on muscles.

It's an opportunity to support your nervous system, improve circulation, reduce tension, and help your body shift into a state where it can recover more effectively.

You don't have to wait until you're hurting to take care of yourself.

Sometimes the best time to schedule a massage is before your body starts shouting for your attention.

Your body works hard for you every single day.

Give it the care it deserves. ๐Ÿ’›

โ˜€๏ธ 5 Minute Morning Mobility Reset โ˜€๏ธ

Before coffee fully kicks inโ€ฆ try waking your body up too. ๐Ÿ˜„

Quick morning flow:
โœจ Arm circles
โœจ Standing side bends
โœจ Spinal twists
โœจ Forward fold
โœจ Ankle rolls

You donโ€™t have to start your day with an intense workout to feel better in your body.

A few intentional minutes of movement can help with:
โœ” Energy
โœ” Stiffness
โœ” Posture
โœ” Stress
โœ” Focus

Tiny movement habits can change how your whole day feels.

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ Happy 4th of July! ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

Itโ€™s one of my favorite holidays!
Today is a day to celebrate freedom, family, friends, and the moments that bring us together.

As you enjoy cookouts, fireworks, vacations, and time with loved ones, remember that health isn't built by one meal, one workout, or one holiday.

It's built by the choices you make most of the time.

So today:
โค๏ธ Enjoy the burger.
๐Ÿ‰ Eat the watermelon.
๐ŸŒญ Have the cookout food.
๐ŸŽ† Stay up a little later.
๐Ÿ˜Š Make memories.

And then get back to your routine when the holiday is over.

One of the greatest forms of freedom is having a healthy, capable body that allows you to fully participate in life and enjoy these moments.

At Total BodyWorks, that's what I'm passionate about helping people build:
๐Ÿ’ช Strength for everyday life
๐ŸŒฟ Recovery and resilience
๐Ÿ˜Œ A healthy relationship with movement and nutrition
โค๏ธ Long-term wellness that lasts beyond any single day

Wishing you a safe, happy, and healthy Independence Day filled with fun, laughter, and time spent with the people you love.

Happy 4th of July! ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธโ˜€๏ธ๐Ÿ’›

๐Ÿ˜Œ Massage & Nervous System Health

Massage Therapy Is About More Than Muscles

When most people think about massage, they think about tight muscles.

But one of the most powerful benefits of massage therapy is what it does for the nervous system.

Stress, busy schedules, poor sleep, and constant stimulation can leave the body stuck in a state of "go, go, go."

When that happens, you may notice:
โ€ข Increased muscle tension
โ€ข Poor sleep
โ€ข Fatigue
โ€ข Headaches
โ€ข Difficulty relaxing
โ€ข Feeling overwhelmed or on edge

Massage therapy helps communicate safety to the nervous system.

It encourages the body to shift from a stressed, protective state into a more relaxed, restorative state.

This can support:
๐ŸŒฟ Better sleep
๐ŸŒฟ Reduced stress
๐ŸŒฟ Improved recovery
๐ŸŒฟ Less muscle guarding
๐ŸŒฟ A greater sense of calm and well-being

Massage isn't just about working on muscles.

It's about supporting the entire system that helps your body recover, regulate, and heal.

Sometimes the most productive thing you can do for your health is slow down long enough to allow your body to reset. ๐Ÿ’›
