Wildcat of the Week: For Director of Donor Relations and Stewardship Julie McCrory, Rye Country Day School has always been more than a place to learn and work. Her Wildcat story began in 1993, when her family moved to Rye and her father, Scott Nelson, became Head of School. As a proud member of the Class of 2003, Ms. McCrory has experienced RCDS from just about every angle—as a student, alumna, faculty and staff member, and now as the proud parent of two Wildcats.
Ms. McCrory has been a member of the Advancement team for seven years, helping foster important connections for the school and celebrate the many ways the RCDS community gives back. Before finding her way to the School’s Advancement effort, Ms. McCrory worked in a similar role at Sacred Heart Greenwich and held operations positions across a variety of industries, including non-profit, finance, and luxury retail.
Every year, Ms. McCrory especially looks forward to the Annual Giving Challenge, when Wildcats near and far come together to support the School. “The best part of the Giving Challenge is the energy and excitement from our volunteers,” she says. “ Whether it’s an employee running into our office to share news of a gift or a parent volunteer celebrating support from a family they contacted, it’s so rewarding to see our community come together and rally behind us.”
A history buff with a particular love of Ancient Rome, sparked by her Latin teachers at RCDS, Ms. McCrory also enjoys a good mystery novel, walking the trails at Rockefeller State Park Preserve, and spending time with her husband, their girls, and their beloved three-legged hound mix, Hopscotch.
