We welcome all because God welcomes all. We encourage young children to participate and make their presence known. We are many races and cultures, different sexual orientations, gender identities and families of various configurations and single people. We come from a wide variety of places on earth and individual spiritual journeys. We are various stages of life, differing abilities and health, and economic circumstances. Our unity is in Christ who calls for us to reject division and discrimination.

Not every important story begins with tragedy.

There are stories of neighbors helping neighbors, communities welcoming strangers, people standing up for justice, and ordinary individuals doing extraordinary acts of kindness.

These stories deserve our attention, too.

Hope is not pretending that suffering does not exist. Hope is recognizing that love continues to work in the world, even when the headlines suggest otherwise.

Today, look for a story of compassion. Share it. Give thanks for it. Let it inspire you.

God of hope, open our eyes to the good unfolding around us. Help us celebrate acts of kindness and join in the work of making your love visible. Amen.

Three years ago today, on October 7, 2023, Hamas invaded Israel and carried out a deadly, horrific attack, murdering around 1,200 people and taking over 250 hostages. Families were torn apart in a single morning.

We remember every one of them.

There must be no equivocation in mourning those killed and expressing solidarity with those who lost loved ones. Pain and sympathy are not zero-sum, and everyone should find the space in their hearts to hold these victims and their families.

This month, we hold in prayer all whose lives have been touched by breast cancer: those newly diagnosed, those undergoing treatment, survivors, caregivers, families, and those who carry the grief of someone they love.

Awareness also calls us to action. Learn about breast health. Keep up with recommended screenings. Encourage the people you love to care for themselves. Support organizations working to make screening, treatment, and compassionate care accessible to all.

God of healing and hope, surround all who face breast cancer with strength, comfort, skilled care, and people who will walk beside them. Amen.

More than six weeks after a devastating earthquake struck Colombia, hundreds of thousands of people are still living with its effects. Families and communities continue the long work of healing and rebuilding.

Through the Lutheran World Federation and its partners, Lutherans are accompanying affected communities with shelter, clean water, food security, protection, mental health support, and assistance for longer-term recovery.

This is diakonia in action. We show up in moments of crisis, but we also stay for the quieter, slower work that follows.

We continue to hold the people of Colombia in prayer and give thanks for all who are helping rebuild homes, communities, and hope.

Prayer can lead us to action. Lutheran Disaster Response is supporting people affected by the earthquakes in Colombia and Venezuela through its network of partners. Gifts help communities respond, recover, and rebuild.

When the headlines move on, love stays.
