We are various stages of life, differing abilities and health, and economic circumstances. Our unity is in Christ who calls for us to reject division and discrimination.

Jesus was once asked, “And who is my neighbor?” (Luke 10:29)

Perhaps Monday offers us another way to ask the question:

Who needs a neighbor today?

Who needs someone to listen?
Who needs to be welcomed rather than judged?
Who needs someone to stand beside them or speak up with them?
Who simply needs to know they have not been forgotten?

Our neighbors are not only those who live nearby or those whose lives look like ours. Jesus continually draws the circle wider.

As a new week begins, may we pay attention to the people God places before us and be ready to answer the call to love our neighbor.

Who might God be inviting you to notice today?

An excerpt from our Welcome the Stranger Worship Order:

God, we remember that you and your boundless love are not of this world. You are beyond our own limited human structures of political systems and border walls.

Remind us that it is not our job to cast judgment on worldly legality, but to offer abundant and radical hospitality and love to all.

Work through us, Oh God, to disband earthly systems of oppression and to work to make your kingdom real here on Earth. Amen.
