We realize something.

When we say we're starting SGS classes, most people have absolutely no idea what we're talking about.

Fair enough.

SGS stands for:

STRIKE. GRAPPLE. SUBMIT.

Paul developed the system by combining his traditional martial arts background with MMA and his experience in law enforcement and defensive tactics.

If MMA asks, “How do I become a more complete fighter?”

SGS asks a slightly different question:

“What skills would I want if I actually had to protect myself or someone I love?”

So we train across different ranges.

Striking.

Takedowns.

Grappling.

Ground control.

Escapes.

Submissions.

Practical self-defense.

Multiple disciplines but all based on an easily accessible form of self defense that anyone can master.

And because you're actually moving and training, you're getting a pretty good workout at the same time.

This isn't about preparing people for a cage fight.

It's about helping ordinary men and women become fitter, more capable and harder to overwhelm.

Our first daytime classes are starting September 15th:

TUESDAY — 9:30 AM

SATURDAY — 10:00 AM

$75/month for one class each week

$99/month for both

We're looking for the first 10 people who want to build this group with us.

No experience required.

A lot of people are interested in BJJ right up until they imagine walking into their first class.

So here's what we want beginners to know.

Nobody expects you to know the terminology.

Nobody expects you to understand every position.

Nobody expects you to keep up with someone who has trained for years.

Your job on day one is much simpler:

Show up.
Listen.
Learn a few things.
Ask questions.
Come back.

That's it.

Our BJJ Foundations program begins September 14. If you've been watching from a distance because starting feels intimidating, this is exactly the kind of starting point we've built it for.

Want to know what to wear, what class is like or whether it's a fit for you? Send us a message. We'll answer the question before we ask you to sign up.

Paul went to Florida for the week.

Paul loves Disney.

We were left unsupervised.

You can probably see where this is going.

WMA MOVIE TRIVIA - PAUL-WENT-TO-FLORIDA EDITION

Three clues:

🌊 A demigod
🐔 A chicken with absolutely no survival instincts
🍗 "Boat snack."

Name the movie.

Bonus question: Who is the "boat snack"?

We've been warning people about this.

Try Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and there's a very real chance you'll start thinking about it all the time.

Apparently,it spreads to the pets, too.

Brian's cats have now skipped BJJ Foundations entirely and gone straight to live rolling.

Technique needs work. Intensity is excellent. Respect for the tap is questionable. I

If you've been thinking about trying BJJ yourself, our BJJ Foundations program starts September 14.

You do not need experience.
You do not need to be in shape first.
You do not need to practice on your pets.

You just need to start.

I know that most people think I am a Johnny Lawrence type of teacher, but I am going to be a Daniel Larusso type Sensei for a minute. I want to thank a few people who make our studio “go” and allow me to go on more vacations since I retired.

Anthony who steps up even though he is grumpy like
Me.

Our newest teacher John, I hope the little kids were not too much for you

Lily, our newest black belt but long time teacher. She actually knows the material as well as me and can kick way higher than me.

Josie, who keeps our place clean and is the social media spokesperson.

Coach Scott, who runs our BJJ program like he is 20 years old. ( he is old in real life)

Last but not least, our marketing guru, Facebook specialist, the guy who hounds you with all the emails, and person who gives me heartburn……Brian

Without you guys and all of our great students our studio would not be the most unique studio in North America.

Now back to
Johnny Lawrence

You dropped the kids at school.

Now what?

If you’ve ever wanted to learn martial arts or just get a great workout and actually learn how to protect yourself, we’re adding something new at WMA specifically for adults.

SGS — Strike. Grapple. Submit.

It’s the martial arts system developed by Paul Lombardi after decades of training in traditional karate, MMA, law enforcement and defensive tactics.

The easiest way to explain it?

Think MMA with a mainly standing self-defense focus.

You’ll learn striking. Grappling. Takedowns. Ground control. Escapes. And how those skills fit together when the goal isn’t winning a competition—it’s being able to protect yourself.

You don't need martial arts experience.

You don't need to be in great shape.

And you definitely don't need to want to become a fighter.

We’re looking for 10 men and women who want to build this first daytime SGS group with us.

Tuesday — 9:30 AM

Saturday — 10:00 AM

Train once a week: $75/month

Train both: $99/month

Drop the kids at school Tuesday morning.

Then come learn something for yourself.

Paul is in Florida this week.

Naturally, we waited until he left the state to take over the place.

The good news: WMA's regular classes continue while he's away, and we're fortunate to have a deep group of experienced people stepping in.

Karate:
Monday & Wednesday - Anthony
Tuesday & Thursday - John

MMA:
Monday - Coach Scott
Remaining MMA classes - Tommy

So keep training. Keep showing up. And if anything gets broken, we have several days to figure out how to blame Paul before he gets home.

Seriously, thank you to the instructors helping keep everything moving while Paul gets some well-earned time away.

See you in class.

SEPTEMBER 14. A GOOD DAY TO START SOMETHING. | Kids Karate Confidence Program | BJJ Foundations

September 14.

Two new beginnings at WMA.

For kids, our new karate year and Confidence Program begin.

For adults and older youth, BJJ Foundations begins.

Very different programs.

But both start with basically the same idea:

You don't have to already be good at something to walk through the door.

That's what the first class is for.

If someone in your family has been talking about trying martial arts, this is a pretty good time to stop talking about it and come see what we're all about.

Questions are welcome.

Beginners are welcome.

September 14.

🎬 WMA MOVIE TRIVIA — FIRST TIME PLAYING. FIRST TIME WINNING.

Apparently Lindsey Williams has this figured out already.

This week’s movie was Back to School, and Lindsey jumped into WMA Movie Trivia for the very first time…
…and won the whole thing.

Congratulations, Lindsey!

Josie handled the official winner announcement, although “handled” might be generous this week. 😂

There were hiccups. Literally.

There was also a surprise hello from our neighbor Oaklynn.

But eventually, we got the winner announced.

And one important reminder because apparently we didn’t make this clear enough last week — the winner gets a $10 Dunkin’ gift card!

Sorry, Nick. We probably should have mentioned that when you won. 😂

So yes, there are actual stakes here.

Movie trivia. Bragging rights. Ten bucks worth of Dunks.

Not bad for guessing a movie.

Congrats again to our first-time player and first-time champ, Lindsey Williams!

Next movie coming soon. Who’s playing?

If you know Shihan Paul, you know there are a few things he feels strongly about.

Martial arts.
Doing things the right way.
And apparently… NOT seeing 400 back-to-school pictures in his Facebook feed. 😂

So naturally, we decided the best thing to do was make this week’s WMA Movie Trivia all about back-to-school pictures.

Sorry, Paul.

Here’s the deal:

📸 Post your kid’s first-day-of-school picture in the comments.
🎬 Include your guess for this week’s movie.
🏆 Get the movie right and you’re in the running for this week’s winner.

And since Paul would probably rather attempt the Triple Lindy than scroll through everyone’s back-to-school pictures, we figured this was the perfect movie to kick it off.

No kids? Kids grown up? Refuse to participate in the annual Facebook back-to-school photo extravaganza?

You can still play. Just drop your movie guess.

But everyone else…

Bring on the backpacks.
Bring on the new sneakers.
Bring on the signs telling us their grade, teacher, favorite food and what they want to be when they grow up.

Let’s absolutely ruin Paul’s Facebook feed. 😂
