Community competition for house supremacy continued in the last week before holiday break, with well-attended dodgeball contests at gym night and the annual Ugly Sweater Contest on Wednesday. Based on the crowd response, Steve Tuckerman was dethroned as Ugly Sweater Champion and Graham Campson took the title for 2012.

The first major house competition of the year saw the KMS student-athletes, faculty and staff descend on Rutland Bowlerama, where the House of Cards put in a dominating performance to leap ahead in the community team standings.

With several hard-fought games for team points followed by a pair of drawn-out "alpine vs. non-alpine" match ups, the opening gym night of 2012-13 set the stage for a great series of events to come.

With strong performances in all three judged categories, the Yellow Submarines took the win over second-place Tigers and third-place Tri-Lambdas.

To hone their lab skills, students in Ben Todt's full-term chemistry class took to the kitchen. Using graduated cylinders (and the metric system), they followed lab directions (in this case, a recipe) to create some chocolate-chip desert.

Despite a slight miscalculation on cooking time by the instructor, the result proved quite popular.

After the success of last spring's trip to New Hampshire's Rye Beach, KMS has decided to establish a surf trip as one of the annual traditions of the full-term program. With blue skies, reasonable water temperatures and good waves, the second trip proved an even greater experience than the first.
