Keep Rutherford County Beautiful Formed by the Rutherford County Commissioners in NC to lead litter sweeps and green initiatives in RC

Keep Rutherford County Beautiful began as an Earth Day litter pickup in 2016 and has transformed into a movement throughout Rutherford County, North Carolina. Neighbors, industry leaders, business owners, school systems and municipalities have joined forces to change the way we define community. Now an affiliate of Keep America Beautiful, the nation's largest community improvement organization, KRCB leads multiple green programs and initiatives throughout Rutherford County including litter sweeps, our annual Green Scholarship, and our Green Business Program. Together, we are taking action to love where we live, work and play.

Litter Bowl behind the scenes 🎬.

This year’s Litter Bowl competition was made possible by many hours of heart and dedication given by our incredible staff, volunteers, and committee members. Special thanks to our volunteers and staff for helping with school visits, supply drop-off and pick-up, bag pick-up, and more. Many thanks to our committee members, Lindy Abrams, Jenna Bailey, Clark Poole, and George and Marian Moyer for visiting our schools and recruiting students to the cause.

And a huge thank you to NCDOT and the local towns for collecting bags across the county in support of this initiative. This program is only possible with the support of all the folks behind the scenes, so please be sure to give them a big thank you when you see them around town! 👏

Our butterfly stonecrop in the Spindale pollinator garden is welcoming many winged friends this fall! This beautiful flower attracts lots of pollinators come late summer and fall, like the fritillaries and bees pictured here, and is a great addition to any garden.

Come visit the Spindale pollinator garden near the ROC office and Thermal Belt Rail Trail at 115 N Oak St, and stay tuned for fall planting days coming soon! 🌿

Rutherford County showed up and showed out for this year's Litter Bowl! 💪

Together, our community collected over 4,100 pounds of litter, with the help of over 400 volunteers and over 800 hours of dedication. Students and community groups hit our roads, parks, school campuses, and waterways to clean up litter and make our county greener and cleaner. Our local youth showed up as leaders in our community, with environmental clubs, student councils, and all kinds of groups coming together to care for our community.

Big thank you to each and every teacher, student, and community group who came together and showed their dedication to our county during Litter Bowl and beyond! 🌿

It's that time of the year again! The 2026 Rutherford County Litter Bowl kicks of this month on Friday the 18th and runs until Monday, September 28th.

Our high school students and community members are hitting the roads, parks, trails, and campuses in a competition to see who can collect the most litter. Last year, over 2,400 pounds of litter were cleaned from our county's public spaces, with REaCH as the defending champion... but who will our 2026 winners be?🏆♻

Students - see your school representatives for supplies!
Public groups - you can participate too! "Donate" your trash to your favorite RC High School!

Before and after. 💪

These YouthWorks crews put a whole lot of muscle and heart into cleaning up our local waterways last week. The group pictured here spent a whole day of their service week cleaning up Cleghorn Creek, hauling out hundreds of pounds of debris including tires, car mufflers, metal pipes, and much more.

Join us in thanking the dedicated crews at YouthWorks for serving our county this summer, and for making our waterways healthier for this and future generations! 🌎💚
