Tablecloth Trick! Here’s my live performance from this year’s AAPT Summer 2026 PIRA Demo Show. It was a privilege to share this demonstration at this year’s AAPT Summer Meeting. It was also great to collaborate with Daniel Davis (Harvard University), whose timing and stage presence made this performance a lot of fun!

We are having our 25th Annual Faraday Physics Show on the first weekend of December! The preshow is an interactive experience where attendees can explore demos up close, while the main show features an action-packed performance with fire, flying projectiles, and, of course, thrilling explosions! 😊

Feel free to invite your family, friends, and neighbors to join in the fun. Preshow and show times, location, and parking details are included on the flyer.

When a professor says, ‘Hey, you’re gonna be Darth Vader,’ the natural response is, ‘Ok, but we HAVE to have a duel!’ Thanks to this Reddit user for capturing this epic mid battle pic. Safe to say Halloween was a success. This is just one of the many reasons I love working in the Rutgers Physics and Astronomy Department!

Short story: Two years ago, this same professor heard I’d made a lightsaber and emailed, asking if he could borrow it. Back then, he was Darth Vader, and I was Luke Skywalker. This year, the tables turned—I got to be DV, complete with a dramatic entrance!

Went aurora hunting tonight! It’s always hard to find a spot without light pollution in central New Jersey, but here’s what I captured on my iPhone 13 Pro Max.

Phones and cameras can use long exposure to gather more light, which helps make the auroras more visible. Unlike the human eye, which sees in real time and struggles in low light, cameras can accumulate light over several seconds, revealing colors that are hard to see in person.

While I didn’t see exactly what my phone captured, since the auroras were faint and appeared more gray to my eyes, the camera picked up the full spectrum of colors.

Boston Trip, Part 7: I’m standing next to the very first Van de Graaff generator built by Robert Van de Graaff himself! It was very cool to get a tour of the MIT physics demo storage place :)

Following up on my last post, here’s my successful attempts on bubble magic. Look at the center of the structure to find the pentagon- and hexagon-shaped bubbles. The caterpillar reminds me of SpongeBob….

Thanks to .nord1 for introducing me to Tom Noddy and his bubble magic. Really cool stuff. Will need to practice more.
